Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

in
Mathematics for Grade 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define mean, median and mode;
b. calculate the mean, median and mode of ungrouped data; and
c. apply the concept of mean, median and mode in a real-life situation.
II. Subject Matter:
A. Topic: Measure of Central Tendency of Ungrouped Data

B. References: Mathematics-7 Quarter4-Module4

C. Materials: Visual aid, Balloon, Nips Chocolate

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
A.1 Opening Prayer
A.2 Greetings
A.3 Checking of Attendance
A.4 Checking of Assignment
A.5 Review
B. Activity / Motivation
Activity
The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will be
given a bag of NIPS Chocolate. Arrange it according to this order of
colors: (blue, red, orange, and green). Within three minutes they should
identify the following:

a. the average of the NIPS

b. identify the middle color
c. identify the most frequent color

The last group who can identify the following will going to sing the song
Hey Diddle Diddle:
Hey diddle, diddle the medians the middle
You add, and divide for the mean
The mode is the one that you see the most
So central tendency begins

C. Lesson Proper

a. Activity

The Class will be divided into four groups and each group will do
the following.
 List down all their names and ages
 Find the average of their ages
 Find the middle-age
 What is age is repeating?
 What is the lowest age?
 What is the highest age?
The first group who will finish the activity will have an additional of 5
points.

b. Analysis
a. How did you find working the activity?
b. How did you deal it with your group?
c. What do you think is the purpose of this activity?
d. What do you think is our topic today?

c. Abstraction
The teacher will present the topic and its definition.
Measures of Central Tendency - A measure of central tendency is a single value that
attempts to describe a set of data by identifying the central position within that set of
data.
The three common measures of central tendency are the mean, median and mode.

1.) MEAN- The sum of all scores divided by the total number of scores.
How to get the mean?

Example:
Consider the data set: 17,10,9,14,13,17,12,20,14

LP
2. MEDIAN – is the value which occupies the middle position when all the
observations are arranged in an ascending order.
> Arrange the data in order from least to greatest
>when the total number of observations are even, add the middle number then
divided by two to get the median.

Examples:
1. A group of students obtained the following scores in English quiz: 5,8,9,10,7,6.
Sol:5,6,7,8,9,10

 Here, there is no “middle” score so we take the average of the two scores at the
center.

2. Find the median of the data: 26,31,33,37,43.

 Here the number of terms is 5. The middle term is 3rd on and it is 33.
 Hence, the median is 33

3. MODE - is defined as the value that occurs most frequently in the data. Some data
sets do not have a mode because each value occurs only once.
Example:
Find the mode of the given set of data: 2, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7,
Mode = 5

d. Application
The teacher will give a balloon to each group, and each group
should
have a representative. Inside the balloon, there is a question or a problem
to
calculate the mean, median, and mode. To participate, each representative
has to pop the balloon and answer the question as quickly as they can. The
first group that can answer correctly will shout their yell. Choose three
representative from the group to discuss the given activity.
Question:
A total of 15 patients admitted
to a hospital are tested for levels of blood
sugar (mg/dl) and the results obtained were as follows:
87,71,83,67,85,77,69,76,65,85,85,54,70,68,80. Find the mean
, median and mode.

IV. Evaluation
1. Given the set of numbers: 11,20,21,18,28,30,and 42. Determine the
mean, median and mode.
2. Find the mean, median and mode.
