1. Mean
- Is the “ average “ you’re used to, where you add up all the
numbers and then divide by the number of values in the set. Given the
formula

EXAMPLE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6 ,7 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19,
20, 21, 22, 22, 23, 24, 25

325/25=13

Example 2: 9, 12, 12, 19, 20, 23, 27, 30, 17, 16, 15, 19, 20,21

260/14=18.6
2. Median
- is the middle value of a sorted list of numbers. To find the
median, place the numbers in value order and find the “middle”.
Example:
A. ODD OBSERVATION
35, 12, 23, 14, 36, 74, 53, 68, 42
Solution : 12, 14, 23, 35, 36, 42, 53, 68, 72 then find the middle
value.

Another way to find the median when n is odd =

Median =
= 10/2
= 5th term or observation which is 36.

2. EVEN OBSERVATION
16, 17, 10, 13, 20, 18, 13, 14, 18, 19
Solution: Arrange the values from smallest to largest.
10, 13, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 18, 19, 20
16 & 17
= 16+17/2
= 16.5

Another way: Using formula Median =

3. Mode
- identifies the category or score that occurs the most frequently within the
distribution of data.
Example: 9, 12, 12, 12,19, 20, 23, 27, 30, 17, 16, 15, 19, 20,21, 17, 15, 16,
12, 16, 12
Solution:
9, 12, 12, 12, 12,12,15, 15, 16, 16, 16, 17, 17, 19, 19, 20, 20, 21, 23, 27, 30
MODE = 12 since it is the most frequent data in the distribution.
Example 2. The following are the scores of the Grade 8 students in their
Mathematics quiz:
31,21 ,32, 29,28,28,29,21,21,22,25,26,28
Solution:
21, 21, 21, 22, 25, 26, 28, 28, 28, 29, 29, 31, 32
MODE = 21, 28
Application:
The following are the grades of Grade 9-Makahiya in their Mathematics
Subject:
