SAVE THE EARTH
In recent decades, in addition to basic issues such as
preventing a nuclear war, preserving peace, and lowering population
growth rates, environmental protection in nature has also become a
major global issue and of vital importance to humanity.
Protecting the living environment is a major global issue where
the entire global community is working together to improve the
situation. Ozone depletion increases the risk of skin cancer, eye
diseases and can reduce human immunity. Animals and plants are
also affected and some species can be destroyed or are on the
verge of extinction.
The worldwide ecological crisis is occurring at an alarming
level, with resources being depleted rapidly. Environmental pollution
is increasingly spreading and becoming a threat to human
existence.
In the last 5 years, enviromental issues have been better
attended to. In reality however, the rate of harmful emissions in the
atmosphere continues to increase; The rate of forest destruction is
at an alarming rate; One-third of the world's population still lacks
water. If there are no new measures to manage groundwater
resources, by 2050 the world will fall into a water crisis; Seafood is
being overexploited and is declining; Desertification is still at crisis
level in Africa.
The causes of environmental degradation are rapid industrial
development, increasingly serious deforestation on a global scale,
imbalance between the utilization of resources among the
population, and the emergence of arms races.
Currently, pollution and environmental degradation occur in
any country or region, from underdeveloped countries to advanced
industrial countries. Pollution in the environment is not limited to
national borders; Deforestation in one country can cause floods and
droughts in another. This is a global problem, so no single country
can solve it on its own. There needs to be general coordination
through a global strategy.
Vietnam is also facing serious ecological and environmental
challenges. Land, forest, water, animals and plants are
overexploited, depleting rare natural resources. The area of
degraded land and barren hills in our country has now reached 13
million hectares (39% of the area), of which 1.2 million hectares
have lost the ability to cultivate.
In the past 50 years, the forest area has decreased by 6 million
hectares, the coverage rate is 26%. Currently, in some areas of the
forest, the concentration of dust and toxic emissions is many times
higher than the permitted level because most factories still use
outdated technology and old equipment.
Faced with this situation, the Party and the State of Vietnam
have taken positive actions to protect the environment, ensuring a
healthy life for the people.
Vietnam must draw the lessons from industrialized countries
and have a plan to prevent and limit pollution in the coming time.
Mineral exploitation needs to be well organized and managed to
avoid wasting resources and negatively affecting environmental
resources.
Therefore, it is necessary to constitute a system of legal
documents as a basis for mandatory implementation of standards on
discharge, pollution control and handling of violations. When
planning urban areas, it is necessary to have proper attention
leading to the location of factories, quarters, recreational centres,
green areas, drainage systems, solid waste landfills, waste
treatment plants and toxic waste incinerators, etc.
Environmental protection is a shared concern of everyone,
every family, every country, and with the whole of humanity. It is
with a sense of responsibility: let's save the earth, save the cradle of
humankind.
