EXCELLENT VERY GOOD GOOD STUDY MORE
The previous lesson taught us how computer processes or translates encoded
data. It was converted to binary digit which is the only language that the computers
can understand and processed to that was converted to letters, symbols or numbers to
be understood by human. How these data and information be saved to computer or to
other removable devices. The previous topic also discussed on how measuring
instruments/equipment can be stored properly.
Look for the following terms about the previous lesson and encircle your answers.
Decimal Binary Kilobytes Gigabytes
Flash Disk Magnetic Disk Memory Memory Module
Technician Flowchart
In order for the computer to provide us meaningful and useful information, it will process
the encoded data. It will follows a concise graphical system of connected symbols used to show
the functional relationships of the parts of an electrical or mechanical components and the
component of a system called schematic drawing or diagram. One of these is flowchart – a
diagram that uses graphic symbols to depict the nature and flow of the steps in a process. It
consists a process that contains series of actions, changes or functions bringing about a result or
output. These drawings or diagram are created by technician (a person skilled in mechanical or
industrial techniques or in a particular technical field).
BENEFITS OF FLOWCHART
1. Promote understanding of a process- Flowcharts can help you gain agreement
about the sequence of steps and promote understanding in a way that the written
procedures cannot do.
2. Provide a tool for training employees- It can be very helpful in training employees to
perform the process according to standardized procedures.
3. Identify problem areas and opportunities for process improvement - It is easy to spot
opportunities for simplifying and refining your process by analyzing decision points,
redundant steps and rework loops.
ELEMENTS OF FLOWCHART
a) Terminator - represented by a small rectangle with curved corners and appears at
the beginning and ending of a flowchart;
b) Process – it refers to an action in a business process and it is represented by a
rectangle;
c) Sub-Process – represented by a rectangle with double lines on each side and it is the
major process that could be broken up into simpler processes developed into another flowchart;
d) Decision – characterized by a diamond and a process that can answer a decision of
“yes” or “no” requires a decision box;
e) Connector – a letter labeled small circle or connector box which ensures that the
processes are connected logically or correctly on several pages and
f) Arrow Lines – which was drawn in one direction, preferably from top to bottom and
keep a flowchart clear.
TYPES OF FLOWCHART
1) Linear Flowchart - is a diagram that displays the sequence of work steps that make up a
process. It helps identify rework and redundant or unnecessary steps within a process.
2) Deployment Flowchart - shows the actual process flow and identifies the people or groups
involved at each step.
Interpreting flowcharts will help you to: a) determine who is involved in the process; b)
form theories about root causes c) identify ways to streamline the process d) determine how to
implement changes to the process e)locate cost-added-only steps and f) provide training on
how the process works or should work.
