1. Description of the Host Organization
1.1. General description of the organization.
Scots English Australia is a member of Scots English College systems that are
headquartered in Sydney, Australia. This system is one of the top five English training
schools in Sydney, certified by Neas – a prestigious English education quality
accreditation organization in Australia and around the world. Scots English pursues the
goal of becoming an international standard 5-star training system, helping the young
generation of Vietnam develop language, skills and moral values to reach the world. The
center's fundamental beliefs are to place students at the center of all activities, encourage
initiative and creativity in the workplace, and teach them to continuously learn how to
increase value every day. Every letter in the word “SCOTS” has its own meaning. S
stands for Student, C stands for Centered, O stands for Ongoing, T stands for Teaching
and S stands for Support. Their motto is “Where English learning goes beyond”. This
indicates that the students and their educational experience at Scots English are the center
of their attention and that nothing else matters to them. Moreover, learning methods that
awaken eight forms of intellect can assist youngsters in developing their English
proficiency, moral principles, self-discipline, and skill sets so they can actively shape their
future. With a team of excellent teachers with extensive experience, high professional
qualifications, and international certificates such as TESOL, CELTA, DELTA, TEFL, etc.
There are also modern facilities which will help students to have a better experience in the
learning and entertainment area for students. There are up to 15 rooms so students,
teachers and teacher assistants will have their own space to study. The rooms are designed
to be suitable for learning with many colors to help stimulate students' creativity and
passion for learning, especially the classrooms are also well soundproofed.

1.2. Detailed description of my job role.

In my internship, I learned about different types of records and books, and I was trained in
how to design lessons, create tests, and assess students’ learning. I also realized that my
2
job role plays a crucial role in the education of students. I worked alongside teachers to
support students’ learning and development. I must ensure that all students can succeed
by providing students with individualized attention and support to form a classroom
environment where all students feel comfortable, safe, and respected.
I also realized that there were various tasks that my job must deal with such as organizing
and leading extracurricular activities, providing supports to students with special needs…
during my internship. Besides that, there were a lot of key responsibilities and duties such
as supervising students during the lessons and breaks. I made sure that all students were
engaged in the lesson and understood the material. I also answered any questions they
had. During breaks, I ensured that students were safe from their frolic. Assisting with
lesson planning and preparations was also one of the most important responsibilities. I
helped teachers by setting up equipment and gathering materials. The next essential duty
is communicating with parents. I communicated with parents about their child’s progress
and provided parents with support and resources.

In addition, I had the opportunity to practice a specific teaching method called PPP
(Presentation, Practice, Production). I also assisted Scots English with attendance and
other activities. I participated in meetings and other events that helped me to develop my
teaching skills and learn more about the education system.

2. Self-reflection on my internship in relation to academic knowledge acquired at the

university
2.1 Objectives of the internship
In my internship, I have achieved several objectives:
 Acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to teach English to students at
different stages of development and language learning.
 Developing the skills and knowledge necessary to create and maintain a positive
and productive learning environment.

3
 Gaining an understanding of the structure, function, and challenges of the
education system, to better understand the broader context in which education
takes place.
 Developling and refining the core teaching skills of lesson planning, delivery, and
assessment.
 Learning what it’s like to be a teacher assistant by working in a real classroom.
Learn about the different things that teacher assistants do.
 Gaining an understanding of the teacher’s professional knowledge and skills and
developing a basic understanding of different teaching methods.

2.2. Areas of professional development experiences during the internship

Flexibility
Students learn in different ways, so I need to be able to adapt their teaching style to meet
the needs of all learners. In other words, I need to be flexible and willing to experiment
with different teaching approaches to reach all my students. This may involve using a
variety of teaching methods, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning activities. It
may also involve using a variety of materials such as textbooks, articles, videos, and real-
world objects.

Classroom management
This includes learning how to set clear expectations because it helps student to understand
what is expected of them academically and behaviorally. This can be done by establishing
rules and procedures. Next, building relationships with students creates a positive and
supportive learning environment. This can be done by getting to know students
individually, and by showing them that teachers and teacher assistants care about their
success. Finally, resolving conflicts is essential for maintaining a positive and productive
classroom environment. This can be done by listening to all sides of conflicts, and by
helping students to find a solution that works for everyone.

4
Curriculum Design
During my internship, I recognized that English teachers need to have a deep
understanding of the subject matter. They must be able to understand the needs of their
students and design a curriculum that meets those needs. They must also be able to assess
student learnin in a fair and accurate way. Additionally, English teachers need to be
creative and innovative in their teaching to engage their students.

Patience
I suppose that every teacher needs patience because this is important for them especially
English teachers. When I work with students who may have limited proficiency in the
language, I must try to be patient so that I can create a supportive learning environment
where students feel supported, they are more likely to persevere and learn from their
mistakes and that will have them to build their confidence and improve their language
skills.

Time management
Through my teaching experiences, I have learnt that is essential to be organized in order
to manage my time effectively and achieve my teaching goals. This means ensuring that I
complete all parts of the lesson, including vocabulary, grammar and games, during the
allotted time. I also need to tutor students who have limited proficiency in the language to
help them reinforce their learning.

2.3 Self-evaluation
As an intern at Scots English center, I gained valuable experience that helped me to grow
as a teacher. At first, I was overwhelmed by the challenge of teaching a large class, but I
learned how to keep engaged and focused on the lesson. I was also able to apply what I
had learned in my university to real-world teaching and develop my own teaching styles. I
also gained valuable experience in a real-world setting, which helped me to identify my
strengths and weaknesses as a teacher. I had a very positive internship experience at Scots

5
English Center. I was able to achieve all my learning goals, and I even learned more about
the importance of creating a green educational space.

2.3.1. The advantages of English Courses at Thang Long University

Honestly, I am so grateful for the education I received at Thang Long University. Due to
the knowledge that I have learn, I was prepared well for my internship as an English
teacher.
First, my major is mainly related to teach English so basic skills such as listening,
speaking, reading and writing were taught very thoroughly during my studies and I
always apply these skills every day. There were a lot of subjects that helped me to
improve four basic skills such as English Language in Use 1-2, Listening 1-2-3, Reading
1-2-3, Speaking 1-2-3, Writing 1-2-3….
Next, my specialty is English pedagogy so pedagogical skills such as design a lesson plan
or a test, class management, how to apply method in teaching… are essential for a future
English teacher. There were a lot of subjects that taught me knowledge about pedagogy
from theories to becoming a teaching to soft skills in pedagogy. Lesson planning &
testing for language teacher helped me a lot in designing lesson plans and tests for each
skill and overall ability. Educational psychology taught me how to understand students’
psychology so that I can adjust to engage students to improve their knowledge. Language
teaching methodology 1&2 provided me with the theories on teaching methods and
procedures for students and gave me the opportunity to teach in class like a real teacher.
Thanks to those subjects and the period at Thang Long University, I had a successful
internship by applying knowledge and skills I have learned at school.
2.3.2. My strengths and weaknesses
I do see myself have many weaknesses. I found out that there were some gaps between
the “bookish knowledge” and the “real world”. Exactly as I thought, it was difficult to
manage a class with more than 10 students especially when the students are still young,
there were a lot of things that made me easily get bored, impatient,…

6
However, I have had a lot of opportunities to work as a tutor since I was a freshman, so I
gained a lot of experience in teaching including confidence, giving short and easy-to-
understand lectures, understanding students’ weaknesses and easily changing teaching
methods to adapt students, time management. Most importantly, I have learned to master
the material and apply it to my lessons.
2.3.4. Future career plan influenced by internship
After the period working at Scots English, I had experienced the reality in education. I
also had a chance to apply the pedagogical skills that I have learned in school. This
experience has helped me to solidify my desire to become an English teacher.

I know so well that to become a teacher especially English teacher, there will be a lot
challenges that I have to deal with, but deep down inside me, I want to convey the
knowledge to people around me. I get excited when my students improve and I am
committed to working hard every day to become a good, dedicated and enthusiastic
English Teacher.
