Paper
Sharp has tested all four super-calendared brands of paper and found that these products are
compatible with the Sharp MX range of colour MFP’s, and all give good results. If a superior finish is
required, Sharp recommends that Mondi Colour Copy paper should be used for
both copying and printing.

If the end user is currently using a competitive brand of paper, this can still be used on the MX range
however, it is important to remember that some grades of copier paper have a greater surface dust or
rub-off which may cause internal contamination and copy quality degradation.

The following list describes various types of media that should NOT be used on the Sharp MX series
machines:-

 Special paper for Ink-Jet printer (fine paper/ luster paper/ luster film/ postcard).
 T-Shirt Film (Iron-on print paper)
 Backside of paper printed on another Printer or MFP.
 Carbon/ Thermal paper.
 Perforated or Irregular shaped paper.
 Paper with staple, paper clip or adhesive glue.
 Paper with folds, curl or tear.
 Paper ruffled due to humidity absorption.
 Double postcard.
 OHP type for “oil based” fusing (eg Folex BG74-6).

Coin Vend Interface
All MX series machines have a coin vend interface located on the PCU Main PWB. The vending
device activates various signals to indicate paper sizes and operation.

Connector Manufacture: JST (www.jst.com)

Connector Type PND series
Connector Part Code (Wire Side) PNDP-16V-Z

Before connecting a third party auditor, the device should confirm to the following:-
1. The auditor interface should be optically isolated from the copier.
2. The device should be Power Supply Unit independent.
3. The device power supply unit should be a plug top adapter, not internal.
4. The plug top adapter should have a reinforced insulation barrier.
5. The audit device MUST comply and display the relevant safety approval mark (C-Tick, CE
or equivalent).

To enable coin vend function, test simulation 26 –03 should be set as required:-

Firmware Recovery
In the event of a power failure during a firmware update or HDD failure, the machine may fail to
“reboot” because of corrupted firmware. There are currently 2 methods that can be used to recover
the MFP firmware:-

Menu Key Reference: Menu Key Operation Panel Key

[OK] Key B/W Start Key
[MENU] Key Home Key
[BACK] Key Clear Key
[UP] Key Job Status Key
[DOWN] Key System Key

Firmware Recovery Procedure [Method 1]:-

Power on the MFP. After the Boot animation finishes, Main Program Error!!
the MFP should display MAIN PROGRAM ERROR.

1. After approximately 10 seconds, EMERGENCY PROG Emergency Prog Init

INIT PLEASE WAIT indication should be displayed. Please wait

2. When VERSION CHECK: IcM UNUSUAL message

Version Check
appears (indicating main program error), press the
[Menu] key to enter Firm Update (Boot Mode):- IcM:UNUSUAL

3. Insert a USB memory device containing the Firm Update

MX2600/3100N firmware file (SFU) into the USB slot, From USB Memory
and press the [OK] key.

4. Using the [UP] and [DOWN] keys, navigate and select Firm Update
the required firmware SFU file . > 0102P200.sfu
Use the [OK] key when a directory name is selected to
browse through to the sub folder(s) or [BACK] key, to return
to the parent folder(s).

5. Press [OK]. – It will take approx. 1-2 minutes to read the Firm Update
SFU file. Reading Data

6. After reading is completed, the firmware update (writing) Firm Update IcuM
will commence.
Writing Data
Note:
The abbreviated name/location of the firmware that is being
updated will appear in the upper right corner.

7. If the firmware upgrade completes successfully, Firm Update IcuM

RESULT OK will be displayed. Result : OK

Firmware Recovery
Firmware Recovery Procedure [Method 2]:-

1. Power off the machine.

2. Using a PC, copy the firmware file onto the root directory of the USB memory device.

3. Rename the firmware file to “emupdate_p2.sfu”

Example shown: 0101P200rom.SFU renamed to emupdate_p2.sfu

4. Insert the USB memory device into the machine and Power On.
The machine will “Boot” via the USB memory device and automatically detects and installs
the firmware – the operation display will also switch to “service” mode.

5. Once the firmware update has been installed successfully, power off the machine and
remove the USB memory device.
Note:
After firmware recovery, rename the firmware file “emupdate_p2.sfu” back to the original
filename to avoid any confusion of sending incorrect firmware to the MFP –
ie. Do not send MX2600N firmware to MX3501N machine etc.

HDD Replacement Procedure
The MX2301/2600/3100N series utilises a SATA HDD therefore, the HDD unit from MX3500 or
MX5500N series cannot be used (PATA).
Caution: For MX2301/2600/3100N series, the main program is now stored on the HDD
therefore, if a “Main Program Error”, E7-03 or U2-05 & U2-50 trouble occurs, perform
the following action:-

Main Program Error.

This error indicates that the main program is corrupted on the HDD. To recover the MFP, perform
a firmware update/recovery as described below (HDD Replacement Procedure).

E7-03 or IcM:HDD Trouble

E7-03 indicates HDD trouble therefore, it is recommended to replace the HDD. Once the
replacement HDD is installed, perform the HDD replacement procedure as described below, to
reinstall the main program firmware on the replacement HDD unit.

U2-05 and/or U2-50

When U2-05 or U2-50 trouble occurs, there is no need to perform an emergency firmware
recovery/update. Execute SIM 16 to clear U2 trouble.

HDD Replacement Procedure:

The following procedure requires Boot Mode, which utilises 5 menu keys - refer to the following
table for Menu Key guidance:-
Menu Key Operation Panel Key
[OK] Key B/W Start Key
[MENU] Key Home Key
[BACK] Key Clear Key
[UP] Key Job Status Key
[DOWN] Key System Key

If possible, backup the Data stored on the original HDD unit, prior to replacing:-
 Using a USB Memory Device (SIM 56-02), backup SRAM, Address Book**, Image Send
Registration** and User Authentication data**. (* *Can also be backed up to PC via MFP Web
interface, using Device Cloning/Storage Backup).
 Backup Document Filing and Job Log data to a USB memory device (SIM 56-03 and SIM56-
04) or PC, via the MFP Web interface.
Note: Job Log Data can be only backed up, and not re-installed.

8. Replace the HDD unit and power on the MFP. Main Program Error!!
After the Boot animation finishes, the MFP should
display MAIN PROGRAM ERROR.

9. After approximately 10 seconds, EMERGENCY PROG Emergency Prog Init

INIT PLEASE WAIT indication should be displayed. Please wait
