14. A lead wire and iron wire are connected in parallel. Their resistivity is in the ratio of
49:24. If lead wire carries 80%, more current than the iron wire and iron wire is 47%
longer than the lead wire. Determine the ratio of the cross-sectional area of lead and
iron wire.
15. Derive an expression for equivalent resistance when three resistances are connected in
parallel configuration. Determine the value of unknown resistance R in below circuit so
that
the current supplied by the battery is 5 Amp.

16. A heat dissipating wire dissipates 100 W at 50 OC when subjected to applied voltage of
220 V. If the diameter is 0.01 mm and resistivity is 2*10-8 Ωm, find the length of wire. If
temperature coefficient is 0.005 /OC at 20 OC.
17. (a) If four resistance 10 Ω, 15 Ω, 25 Ω, 40 Ω are connected in parallel across a 240 V
supply. Calculate total equivalent resistance and total current flow in the circuit.
(b) If all the branches of a Pie(π) connection having resistance of 10Ω, calculate its
equivalent Star connection.
18. Temperature of a heating element is governed by the relation θ OC= 20t, where t being
time in second. The temperature coefficient is 0.0005 OC-1 at 0OC. If the initial resistance
of the heating element is 5Ω, find the energy dissipated in the heating element over 10
second period. Applied voltage is 220 V.

b. Potential gradient in each dielectric of the capacitor.

5. A circuit has 1000 turns enclosing a magnetic circuit 20 cm2 in section. With 4A, the flux
density is 1.0 Wb/m2 and with 9A, it is 1.4 Wb/m2. Find the mean value of the inductance
between these current limits and the induced emf if current falls from 9A to 4A in .05
seconds.
6. Two coils of inductances 4 and 6 H are connected in parallel. If their mutual inductance is
3 H, calculate equivalent inductance of combination if: a. Mutual inductance assists the
self-inductance b. Mutual inductance opposes the self-inductance.

4. What do you understand by the Self Inductance? Explain different methods for calculation
of coefficient of Self Inductance (L) in detail, with suitable diagrams.

11. Two coils having self-inductances 4 H and 6 H respectively. If their mutual inductance is 3

12. A metal rod is wound with a coil having 2000 turns. It’s length is 30 cm and diameter is 20
cm. It is bent to form a closed ring and when a current of 0.4 A is passed through it, the
flux density in it is 0.37 Wb/m2. Assuming that the entire flux links with all the turns of
the coil, find: a. Relative permeability of metal b. Self-inductance of the coil c. Emf induced
in the coil, when flux in the metal portion falls to 8% of it’s original value in 1.3
milliseconds.
