KATAASTAASAN KAGALANGGALANGANG KATIPUNAN NG MGA ANAK NG BAYAN (KKK)


A small group of patriotic Filipinos who met at a house on Azcarraga Street, Manila and decided to create a secret
society.

THE AIMS OF THE KATIPUNAN


POLITICAL
To completely separate the Philippines from Spain.
Aim to declare the country’s independence.
MORAL
To teach the Filipinos good manners, cleanliness, hygiene, fine morals, and how to guard themselves.
CIVIC
To encourage Filipinos to help themselves.
To defend the poor and the oppressed.

TWIN SOULS OF THE KATIPUNAN


ANDRES BONIFACIO (Born Nov. 30, 1863)
Born in small nipa hut at Calle Azcarraga (Claro M. Recto Avenue) in Tondo, Manila
Parents: Santiago Bonifacio and Catalina de Castro.
Eldest of five: Ciriaco, Procopio, Troadio, Esperidiona, and Maxima
Obtained basic educ. through Guillermo Osmeña of Cebu.
Bonifacio family was orphaned when he was barely 14.
Assumed the responsibility of raising his siblings.
Maximized his skills in crafting and sold paper fans and canes.
Worked as a messenger in Fleming and Company.
Moved to Fressel and Company as a warehouse man until 1986.
Devoted most of his time reading books and improved his knowledge in Spanish and Tagalog.
Warehouse of Fressel and Company is his library and study room.
Married to Gregoria de Jesus (his second wife).
Monica (his first wife) died of leprosy after a year in marriage.
Gregoria and Andres’ romance sprung at 16 and 29 years old.
Two married in 1982, both in Catholic and Katipunan rites.
Gregoria chose “Lakambini ng Katipunan” as her nom de guerre (assumed name).
April 26, 1897 – Bonifacio was buried in Maragondon, Cavite.
Bonifcaio Trial House
Bonifacio and Pricorpio were killed in Mt. Bondoc.
Died in the hands of a Filipino.
Manuel Quezon exhumed Bonifacio’s remains in Maragondon, Cavite to transfer to
Lazaro Macapagal was ordered to kill and bury Bonifacio.
Esperidiona proved that it was Bonifacio’s remains.
Possibilities of the where Bonifacio’s remains is located.
Stolen.
Displayed in the museum but was destroyed during the World War 2.
Cremated and buried in San Juan.
EMILIO JACINTO (Born Dec. 15, 1875) – “Pingkian”
Born in Trozo, Tondo, Manila
Parents: Mariano Jacinto and Josefa Dizon
Father died.
Mother sent him to his wealthy uncle/
At the age of 20, he became a part of the secret society.
Regarded as the “Brains of the Katipunan.”
Prepared and wrote many Katipunan documents (constitution and Kartilya ng Katipunan).

Must embody the following:
Live for a cause.
Ready to do good
Speaks about honesty.
Equality.
Have integrity and credibility. Have a good character.
Don’t waste your time. We must use our time wisely.
Defend those who don’t have the power.
Know how to keep a secret and when to say things.
Have to be good parents and good husbands to their wives.
Have respect to women. Consider women as partners.
Emphasized equality. One’s worth is not measured by the physical characteristics that you see but the good
characters they have.
