The Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs)
were established by the
United Nations in 2000 as a
set of eight international
development goals that were
to be achieved by 2015. One
of the key aspects of the
MDGs was their emphasis on
the role of language in
promoting and achieving
sustainable development.
Language plays a critical role
in the attainment of the
MDGs in several ways.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of
17 global goals established by the United Nations in 2015
as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the
planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs
build on the success of the Millennium Development
Goals, but they are more comprehensive and holistic,
addressing a wide range of interconnected issues,
including poverty, inequality, climate change,
environmental degradation, peace, and justice.
