ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Principal
Madam, Mrs. VINITA VINCY V who gave us the
opportunity to do this wonderful project on the topic
COURAGE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF FEAR BUT
TRIUMPH OVER IT
which helped me in doing a lot of research and I came to
know about so many new things.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to my English
teacher,
[Link] Meenakshi for providing her invaluable
guidance, support and suggestions throughout the course of
the project.
Secondly, I would like to thank my parents and friends who
helped me a lot in finishing this project within the given time
frame

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
Understand and explain the concept of dominance
over fear.
Identify different types of fears (phobia).
Fear helps protect us.
It makes us alert to danger and prepares us to deal
with it.
The main function of fear and anxiety is to act as a
signal danger threat, or motivational conflict, and to
trigger appropriate adaptive responses
6
ACTION PLAN
AUGUST - Discussing the project topic with our
teacher and analysing the project.
SEPTEMBER - Collecting information about
various phobias and methods to overcome fear
OCTOBER – Apporaching and overcomes fear
NOVEMBER - Organising all the information and
Completion of the project

INTRODUCTION
Fear is one of the most basic human emotions. It is
programmed into the nervous system and works like an
instinct. From the time we're infants, we are equipped with
the survival instincts necessary to respond with fear when
we sense danger or feel unsafe.
Fear helps protect us. It makes us alert to danger and
prepares us to deal with it. Feeling afraid is very natural —
and helpful — in some situations. Fear can be like a
warning, a signal that cautions us to be careful.
Like all emotions, fear can be mild, medium, or intense,
depending on the situation and the person. A feeling of fear
can be brief or it can last longer.
HOW FEAR WORKS?
When we sense danger, the brain reacts instantly, sending
signals that activate the nervous system. This causes
physical responses, such as a faster heartbeat, rapid
breathing, and an increase in blood pressure. Blood pumps
to muscle groups to prepare the body for physical action
(such as running or fighting). Skin sweats to keep the body
cool. Some people might notice sensations in the stomach,
head, chest, legs, or hands. These physical sensations of
fear can be mild or strong.

ORIGIN OF THE QUOTE
Nelson Mandela once said: “I learned that courage was not
the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man
is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers
that fear.”
Courage is a choice that we can make over fear. Being
courageous does not mean that we are not afraid. Being
courageous means we are fearful but you choose to face
our fears and take a step forward
9
COURAGE - A CHOICE TO ACT
Courage is acting despite our fears, knowing that what we
want may not work or that we will face opposition but
acting any way. For the courageous, belief in their vision is
worth the temporary difficulties along the way.
Talk to courageous people in your network about your ideas,
seek out the resources that will support not thwartyou.
The more you voice your big ambitions, the more you put
your intention out there, the more you and others will hold
you accountable for achieving what you envision

WHAT CAN ONE LEARN
FROM FEAR?
Facing fears helps you grow:
Avoiding something you feel
uncomfortable with, maybe as it’s an unfamiliar topic or
unknown territory, prevents you from learning that the
things you fear are not as dangerous as you think.
Learning to control yourself:
When things feel they might
overwhelm you teaches you to control the activation of
your sympathetic nervous system, your flight or fight
reaction.
A type of wisdom:
It can emerge from fear “exposure”,
as the behavioural scientists call it. The experience of
working through something that frightens you gives you
knowledge that often the anxiety when we face our fears
is way less intense than what we thought it would be.
Resilience:
the ability to recover quickly from difficulties;
mental toughness. Facing the uncomfortable develops this
life skill which allows you to survive the stress of inevitable
new situations, teaching you to adapt better to changing
challenges as well as surroundings. It enables you to
transform yourself above the fear into bigger and better
success, especially important in rising leaders.

BENEFITS OF HAVING
COURAGE OVER FEAR
These are just some of the many benefits of being
courageous in modern life:
1. Happiness:
If we don’t act on what we feel is right, we are
often left with regret. By acting on what we feel is right, we
ensure that we are taking the course of action we are most
satisfied with, and increasing our overall sense of happiness.
2. Self-confidence:
Acting with courage helps us build confidence
in ourselves. By calmly considering our course of action and
then acting upon that decision, we can take confidence that
we are
3. Integrity:
When we act with confidence and do the right
thing, we inspire those around us to do the same. Not only
are we happy with the course of action we have taken, but
we’ve also inspired those around us to act with courage as
well.
4. Discovery:
When we push ourselves to act with courage and
do the right thing, we often step outside of our comfort
zones. By doing this, we are opening ourselves up to new
experiences that we would have otherwise missed out on.

HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR?
Fear is not a product of life. Fear is a product of a
hallucinatory mind. You suffer that which does not exist
because you are rooted not in reality but in your mind which
is constantly eating up on the past and excreting into the
future. You don’t actually know anything about future. You
just take a piece of the past, apply make-up on it and think it
is future.
You can plan your tomorrow but you cannot live in your
tomorrow. But right now people are living in tomorrow
and that is why there is fear. The only thing you can do
about this is, come down to reality. If you just respond to
what is there right now and not imagine something that
does not exist, there is no room for fear. Once the
hallucination is gone, where is fear? You will not imagine
something that does not exist, you will respond to what
exists right now.
We are not wishing it upon ourselves. We are planningto
live for many years, but it can happen, isn't it? There is
really no security with life. It is just a question of how
gracefully and with how much freedom you lived this
life.

FAMOUS CELEBRITIES WHO
OVERCAME THEIR FEAR
Abraham Lincoln
He avoided speaking and made excuses to be relieved of this
duty and used a substitute whenever possible.
Rowan Atkinson
The Mr. Bean actor had a massive speaking problem
and had to practice over pronouncing his vowels to
concentrate. This became a main staple of his comedy with
Mr. Bean being almost a silent comedy and many of his
characters showing problems with speaking. On talk shows,
he is oftennervous and uncomfortable.
Thomas Jefferson
The founding father and key author of the American
Declaration of Independence, reportedly only delivered 2
public speeches in his career and both could barely be heard
by attendees.
Mahatma Gandhi
It plagued his court career and brought him out in
palpitations whenever he faced a crowd. He changed the
course of his life and altered history because he knew the
cause of Indian Independence was more important.
