Q1: Describe the main problems of the story?


 Ans: unavailability of “water” in the well.
 In the beginning the main character “Calvin” appeared as the most cruel and most rude
person. His behavior towards his wife “Dora” was very insulting.
 It seems like they belongs to very low status because they live by the country side.

Q2: Explain what a compound-complex sentence is. Give an example:


Ans: A sentence containing a compound sentence that also has one or more subordinate clauses.
 eg: I invited Bruno to the concert, but he can only go if one of us gives him a ride.
 Usman has a beautiful garden, so he enjoys his winters there.

Q3: Explain what non-standard English is? Give an example:


Ans: Words and grammatical patterns that falls outside the conventional forms of English.
Or
Non-standard English is an informal version of English. It is usually contains slang and
colloquialisms that wouldn’t be used in more formal or professional English.
 eg: Calvin said; Git going to Dora, rather than Get going.
Non-standard English can sometime imply that a character has a lower status than one who
speaks Standard English

Q4: Describe the difference between formal and informal English:


Ans: FORMAL ENGLISH:
The form of English used in more serious text and situation, such as news and reports or
official speeches.
Eg: we regret to inform you that the delivery will be delayed due to adverse weather
conditions.

INFORMAL ENGLISH:
A more relax form of English, used when speaking or in more casual written texts.
Eg: sorry, but the delivery will be late because of the weather.

Q5: Give an example of the main theme of the story:


Ans: The main theme of the story “HEY, YOU DOWN THERE” demonstrates that what goes
around, come around.

Q6: what do you think is the main message of “Hey, you down there”?
Ans: The main message of the story is that human desires are unlimited and never end. But
your patience will lead you towards a fruitful result. Because your greed can never be
satisfied.
