DEVELOPMENT OF CASE PROFILE
Objective:
The main objective of preparing a case profile is to understand the individual in totality. As
suggested that the case profile should be in the narrative form.
FORMAT OF THE CASE PROFILE
1. General Introduction:
What is a case profile?
The case profile will include developmental history of the subject using both qualitative and
quantitative methods. Case profile is more specific than Case Study.
How is case study different from Case Profile?
Case Study in Psychology refers to the use of a descriptive research approach to obtain an
in-depth analysis of a person, group, or phenomenon. A variety of techniques may be
employed including personal interviews, direct-observation, psychometric tests, and archival
records. Case Profile is a simple version of Case Study that tries to identify the various
factors including physical, psychological, social and emotional factors affecting the individual
(case) through various psychological techniques like interviews, observations, psychometric
tests, etc.
2. Psychological techniques used for data collection:
This will include details regarding different methods that are as follows:
Observation methods*
Survey Methods*
Questionnaire Method*
Interview (Brief description of this technique)
Correlation Method*
Psychological tests (Brief description of the test)
3. Methods of data collection as used in the Case Profile:
(This would specifically focus on methods that have been used while making the specific
case profile by the student. This method includes interview, observations, psychological
tests, etc.)
4. Introduction about the case:
Basic Details: (Demographic details)
(This includes an introduction about the case in terms of name, date of birth, age, gender,
class, religion, school, like/dislikes, etc.)
Information about Socio-economic background including parental details:
(Name, educational background, family income, type of family (Nuclear/Joint), number of
family members, Members of the family (Mother, father, younger brother, older sister, etc.)
etc.)
Information about physical health including developmental milestones, diseases or
disability if any, height, weight, etc.
Interviews from parents, teachers, friends, siblings and case can be taken in order to
collect information regarding case's interests, hobbies, achievements, aspirations,
talents, strengths, weaknesses, etc. (If possible with the above mentioned people, else
the same information can be collected from the subject during the interview). Important
to write the achievements in the case profile, mentioning a brief information like level of
competition (zonal, state, national, etc.), ranking, etc.
5. Observations made regarding the case: *
Observation schedule should be made that should include specific questions related to:
i) At home, ii) At school ii) Social gathering
6. Interviews: *
From parents, teacher, friend, sibling (if any)
7. Psychometric testing:
The test will be administered to the case to collect objective information These tests will be
based on the test as done in respective schools like intelligence, personality, aptitude.
8. Conclusion:
It should include all the information collected like the observations, interview as well as
psychometric tests report.
