Interview Questions

The student is requesting an interview with the recipient about their expertise in permaculture and traditional Mediterranean building techniques. The student is writing a research paper on the synergy between permaculture and traditional building methods for climate-resilient green construction. The interview will focus on the recipient's background in permaculture, how they integrate traditional techniques in their projects, approaches to design and construction without formal training, sourcing materials locally, managing resources and water supply, and views on climate change impacts and future potential for further integration.

Subject: Interview Request for Research on Traditional Mediterranean Building Techniques and

Permaculture

Dear ,

I trust this email nds you well. My name is Paul-Pepe Rieger, and I am a student at TU Vienna
currently working on a research paper for the course "Learning from Mediterranean Heritage: Low
Tech strategies in Architecture - Construction and Material." My research centers on the synergy
between Traditional Mediterranean Building Techniques and Permaculture, speci cally exploring
avenues for climate-resilient green building.

Your expertise in permaculture and practical experience make your insights extremely valuable for
my research, and I would be grateful for the opportunity to learn from your experiences.

Interview Questions:

1. Introduction and Background:

- Can you share a bit about your background and journey into permaculture practices?
- What initially drew you to permaculture, and how has it become integrated into your work?

2. Integration of Traditional Building Techniques:

- In your permaculture projects, have you found ways to integrate traditional building techniques
from the Mediterranean region?
- Are there speci c examples where traditional methods have complemented permaculture
practices?

3. Building Design and Construction Methods:

- When working on permaculture projects, how do you approach building design and
construction methods?
- Are there particular considerations or techniques you nd e ective in a non-architectural
context?

4. Material Sourcing:
- Where do you typically source materials for your permaculture projects?
- Are there challenges or bene ts you've encountered when using locally sourced materials?

5. Connection to Traditional Building Techniques:

- How do you establish a connection between permaculture projects and traditional building
techniques without a formal architectural background?
- Are there aspects of traditional construction that you intentionally incorporate into your work?

6. Resource Availability in Permaculture:

- What resources are typically needed for permaculture projects, and how do you ensure their
availability?
- Can you share insights on sustainable resource sourcing within the permaculture framework?

7. Water Supply:
- How is water supply managed in your permaculture projects?
- Have you implemented any innovative methods or technologies to optimize water use?

8. Climate Change Impact:

- How do you perceive the impact of climate change on living within a permaculture system?
- Do you think climate change, including rising temperatures, can be harnessed to contribute
positively to permaculture models?

9. Future Directions:
- Where do you see the potential future integration of traditional building techniques and
permaculture in sustainable construction, especially considering non-architects?
- Are there areas for further exploration or research that you think would enhance our
understanding of this integration?
