Abstract:
The Mediterranean region has a rich history of traditional building methods that are closely tied to
the local environment.
This research investigates how these traditional techniques align with permaculture principles and
how this alignment can be used to create green buildings that are resilient to climate change.
The main goal of this study is to discover how traditional Mediterranean construction practices
can be integrated with permaculture principles to address climate challenges and promote
sustainable development.
To achieve this goal, a multidisciplinary approach will be taken, gathering insights from various
sources, including books such as "The Barefoot Architect" by Johan van Lengen and
permaculture references like "Edible Cities" by Judith Anger and "The Permaculture City" by Toby
Hemenway, as well as others.
The results of this research seek to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential
connection between traditional Mediterranean building techniques and permaculture principles.
Furthermore, it aims to o er insights into how these synergies can be harnessed to construct
climate-resilient and sustainable green buildings in the Mediterranean region and answer the
question how we can integrate such principles in contemporary architecture.
