Rizal As A Hero Reflection
Rizal As A Hero Reflection
Jose Protacio Mercado Rizal y Alonso Realonda is the Philippines’ national hero. Based from
the provided information and additional research, he was able to wake up the dormant patriotism and
nationalism among his fellow Filipinos. During the period when we were under to Spanish tyranny,
Rizal was among those who struggled for our freedom and democracy. However, he went about it in a
different way. Rizal used his experiences and education in battle while other heroes turned to blood,
war, and violence.
With his talent for writing, Rizal authored a number of works with strong nationalistic and
revolutionary connotations in the hopes of securing political and social reforms for the Philippines. In
March 1887, his daring novel, Noli Me Tangere, a story exposing the arrogance and repression of the
Spanish clergy, was published in Berlin. In 1980, he reprinted Morga’s Successos De Las Islas
Filipinas, He reproduced it with his annotations, proving that the Filipinos had a rich heritage to be
proud of long before any foreign country set foot on Philippine territory. Then, in September 18, 1891,
El Filibusterismo, the sequel of Noli Me Tangere, was printed. His writings were bold exposes of civil
and ecclesiastical officials’ injustices. Through his works, particularly his two novels, Rizal was able to
spark a revolution and awaken patriotism among Filipinos.
He maintained his reform, which awoke even more Filipinos, by writing articles for La
Solidaridad and establishing La Liga Filipina. He used these two platforms to rally Filipinos and
revolutionize against the Spaniards. However, not long after founding La Liga Filipina, Rizal was
captured and executed as a martyr.
His execution fully Ignited Filipino nationalism and patriotism. After Rizal’s death, Andres
Bonifacio, a member of La Liga Filipina, decided to take matters into his own hands and started to
build a new and secret society known as Katipunan. From then on, the Philippine revolution began.
In conclusion, Jose Rizal shaped the patriotism and nationalism among Filipinos through his
peaceful propaganda. He wrote daring pieces against the Spanish government and established an
organization that supported his reforms. This pieces also ignited the nationalism among Filipinos that
provoked them fight for our freedom. Moreover his determination and undaunted courage to uplift the
welfare of his people inspired other Filipinos for the independence of our country. Furthermore, Rizal’s
works continue to shape our love for our nation. Even if he is no longer with us, his works will go on
to symbolize him and what he has done for our country, the Philippines.
