ACTIVITY 5.1

Collaborative Research

In 1971, Dr. Pedro T. Orata was awarded by the Ramon Magsaysay


Foundation for Public Service. By this time, he was already dubbed as the
“Father of Barangay High School” because of his advocacy to open public high
schools in every barangay. The Board of Trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay
Foundation cites why Dr. Orata deserves the award. Research what the citation
says about Dr. Orata by looking it up on the foundation’s website. Check this

answer the following questions:

1. What prompted the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation to award Dr. Orata for
Public Service? Do you think Dr. Orata deserves the award?

The reason of Ramon Magsaysay’s rise up being awarded for Public Service
is his of his 44 years of creative work in education, particularly his conception
and promotion of barrio high schools for rural Filipino youth. Opting to have
given students who had difficulty in their financial studies.

2. What core value of the University do you think did he display in the
achievements mentioned in the citation?

The University’s unchanging in its mission to bring quality education for all
Filipinos in various walks of life, with the aim to produce students bearing a
noble spirit, anchored in the four core values of the University: Integrity,
Competence, Teamwork, and Transcendence. In over six decades, the
Award has been bestowed on 344 outstanding individuals and organizations
whose selfless service has offered their societies, Asia, and the world
successful solutions to some of the most intractable problems of human
development.
