Action Verbs

FACILITATOR:

AGE GROUP: 7 – 10 years old

AIMS
- to develop and practice the productive skills (writing, speaking)

and the receptive skills (listening, reading);

- to reinforce vocabulary, to promote discussion and to practice

language in a particular context;

- to give students more practice on pronunciation, vocabulary and the

structures taught.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to :

 check and improve vocabulary;

 to talk freely;

 develop communication skills (writing, reading, listening and speaking) in a

foreign language

 stimulating SS imagination and creativity

 creating interest in the topic of the lesson

 to make SS confident in themselves when speaking a foreign language

 having fun
ACTIVITIES

Presentation
Space: classroom

1. Teacher introduces the lesson of the day with a short game of Mime.

T. asks a pupil to come to the front and mime an action. The rest of the class

guesses what it is. Whoever guesses correctly comes to the front of the classroom

and mimes the next action.

e.g. Pupil 1: (pretending to eat)

Pupil 2: Are you running?

Pupil 1: No, I’m not.

Pupil 3: Are you eating?

Pupil 1: Yes, I am.

Ss listen to T’s instructions and start the game.

T observes what the unknown verbs are.

2. The facilitator shows the students a PowerPoint Presentation with flashcard,

teaching them the common action verbs.

Ss repeat and stand up to show how would they mime it.

Practice
3. T presents another PPT with hidden images of some of the actions learnt

Ss choose what color to remove so they can see the pictures

Ss name the action hidden in the image

4. Teacher put a song about action verbs and encourages them to sing along and

repeat the actions.

Ss stand up, watch the video and sing along, following the teacher s instructions.

Production
5. The facilitator evaluates the children by playing again the mime and show the

students that now, they know much more words and can play for a longer time.

Ss come in front of the class and mime one of the actions learnt. The one that

guess it, can take him/her place.

6. Teacher asks students to tell each other what they like to do in a normal day and

encourages them to use as many words in English as they can.

Ss tell the story of a normal day in their life using words both in English and

Romanian.

T helps Ss to translate in English the words that they do not know yet.
