SEMI – DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 6

Quarter 3 – Week 6
March 22, 2023

I. Objective: Identify the types of simple machines.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Simple Machines
Reference: MELC, SIM 6 Quarter 3 - Week 7
Materials: Pictures, Laptop, Projector, PowerPoint Presentation
Value Focus: Work Cooperatively (English – affixes and roots)
Integration: TLE – Sewing of household linens
MAPEH (Health) – Ways to control/manage noise pollution.
Mathematics – Solves routine and non-routine problems.
III. Procedure

A. Engagement
Review
What are the different types of energy?
Give an example of energy transformation.

Motivation
What do you see in the picture? What do you think did the person who cut these woods used?

(Integration TLE – Sewing of household linens)

How about if you want to cut cloth for pillowcase sewing? What sewing tool are you going to use?
Do you know class that axe and scissors are also called machines?

B. Exploration
. For us to find out why axe and scissors are called machines we will watch a video and I want you all to
sing along. (Teacher will play a video about simple machines in a form of song.)

Comprehension Check:

What is the video about? What are the six simple machines mentioned in the video? How will you describe
each? What are the uses of each? Why do we use simple machines? Why are simple machines important?

C. Explanation
Based from the video that we’ve watched what are simple machines? Do they make our work easier?

Simple Machines - are devices or tools that make work easier, more efficient and faster.

(The teacher will let the pupils identify what simple machine is being described)

TYPES OF SIMPLE MACHINES CHRACTERISTICS AND THEIR USES

1. ________ A bar (straight or curved) that turns around a fixed point

called fulcrum.

2. _________ Made of a large wheel rigidly secured to a smaller wheel,

shaft or rod called the axle.

3. __________ Consists of a grooved wheel and a rope (chain or cable)

that turns freely in a frame called the block.

4. _________
A flat surface whose one end is higher than the other to lift
heavy objects with little effort.

5. __________
Made up of one or more two inclined planes placed back
to back creating a thick base and sharp edge.

6. ___________
Consist of an inclined plane wrapped in a spiral around a
cylinder.

C. Elaboration: Group Activities

(Integration MAPEH (Health) – Ways to control/manage noise pollution.)
Everyone should help in doing the activity. You are free to share your ideas as long as it is not too loud
that would distract the other groups. Sound is good it allows us to hear and communicate things but when it’s too
much it becomes a noise and a distraction.
Group 1: Crossword Puzzle.

Directions: Identify the simple machine being described.

ACROSS
3. Made of two inclined planes put together.
5. A straight stunted surface.
6. A modification of a pulley.
DOWN
1. Use grooved wheel and a rope or chain
2. A bar that turns around a fixed point called fulcrum.
4. Consist of an inclined plane wrapped in a spiral around a cylinder.

Group 2: Where do I belong?

Directions: Using the different pictures classify what simple machines they belong.

INCLINED WHEEL AND

LEVER WEDGE SCREW PULLEY
PLANE AXLE
Group 3: What I am?
Directions: Give the names of simple machines by answering the following riddle.
1. You can usually find me during flag ceremonies. I help the flag reach the top of the pole.
2. I help Mr Porter put the box to the truck.
3. Hey-o-hey-o, said the dwarf as he lift me to whack the rock into two.
4. I am Mr See-saw.
5. The cyclist is looking for me, his bike won’t move without me.
6. “I need you”, said Mr Hinge,” the door and I can’t connect”.

Group Presentations: 10 minutes only for group sharing and planning, reporting/presentation of works will follow.

D. Evaluation

Directions: Answer the following questions. Choose the letter of the correct answer.
(Integration Mathematics – Solves routine and non-routine problems)
1. A basket is full of fruits with bananas and mangoes. The bananas are 3 times the number of mangoes, so if
n is the number of mangoes; the number of bananas is 3n. What is the number sentence? What simple
machine will the farmer use to lift the baskets of fruits to the delivery truck?
A. 3n – n = 20/Screw B. 3n x n = 20/Wedge C. 3n+n = 20/Inclined Plane D. 3n/n = 20Lever
2. The center of the seesaw is used to balance the board with the seats. The children can easily
move up and down without much force. Which type of simple machines is the seesaw?
A. Inclined Plane B. Lever C. Wedge D. Wheel and Axle
3. When you turn the large knob on a door, a rod on the inside releases a latch that holds the door
closed. It would be difficult to turn the rod if the knob is not attached to it. The doorknob and rod make
up what type of simple machines?
A. Inclined Plane B. Lever C. Wedge D. Wheel and Axle
4. An axe is used to chop woods. The metal part chops through the wood, pushing it apart into smaller
sections. Which type of simple machines is found at the head of the axe?
A. Inclined Plane B. Pulley C. Wedge D. Wheel and Axle
5. A wheel with rope is used to hoist a flag up to the top of a tall flagpole. This simple machine can also be
used to help lift heavy objects with less force. What type of simple machines is found in the flagpole?
A. Inclined Plane B. Pulley C. Wedge D. Wheel and Axle

Assignment
List 6 (six) examples of simple machines found in your home and identify its type. Write your answers in your
science notebook.
