Chapter 2

Review of Related Literature and Studies / RRL

The following literatures state the factors considered by the students in taking their
choices in choosing a career related to how senior high school students choosing their desired
strand.

As explained by McQuerrey (2017) in her article entitled "Family Factors Influencing Career
Choice", family members can influence career choices. A number of factors can shape and
influence the career paths, starting with how family shapes perceptions of different employment
options. Whether raised with ideals of certain professions, or looking for a job that fits the adult
family life, these issues need to be carefully considered. Many children grow up idealizing the
professions of their parents. Parents may also, intentionally or unintentionally push a child
toward a particular career path, especially in the cases of family-owned businesses, where
parents expect their children to take over the company. Still other parents apply pressure on their
offspring to strive for particular high-profile careers, feeling they are encouraging their children
to reach high.

In this literature, it showed the advantage of parental influence or the family-related factors and
how it affects in choosing the right career. It shows that children in transnational households are
not doing worse than children living with both parents. With this, we can say that family really
affects our decision, including their profession and sources of monthly income.

Ambong (2017) stressed that the earning potential of chosen profession is likely to be a factor
that influences career path. Students may find one aspect of their career, which is more
financially rewarding than another, or that working their way through the ranks holds greater
financial incentive than staying in the same job. Their personal financial needs are also likely to
influence in making career choices. Opportunities in career choice would include academic
settings, technical schools, entry level job openings, job shadowing, vocational guidance, job
placement, and industry.

This literature supports the inference of the researchers that opportunities may also affect the
strand and track choice of the student-respondents. Opportunity is one of fact, he factors at may
shashapereer choices for students. Opportunity may influence how students have perceived their
future in terms of the reasonable probability of a future in particular career fields. The issue of
poverty has played an important determining role in the opportunities available to all.

According to Khare (2015), personality plays an important role in the choosing of the right
career. A student's personality must be self-motivated type, as to investigate career possibilities
from on in their lives, and not the procrastinating type that waits till they are compelled to
decide. Perception of being suitable for particular jobs also has been found to be influenced by a
number of factors, including background, year in school, level of achievement, choice of
subjects, attitudes and differences in job characteristics.

Relative to the study, personality may help students to take seriously on their study to avoid
limiting opportunities in the future. It is important to have a good understanding of a personality.
As reported by Martin (2013), the external influences that help to shape an individual's career
choice are also influenced by significant others through social support from peers. People around
contribute a lot in one's decision-making. Individual interest may be affected by peers for the
reason that one wants to be with them in fulfilling dreams or a certain career. Classmates also
play an important role in the formation of the student's achievement, related beliefs and values,
even if these classmates do not always correspond with the peer group of leisure-time friends.

This literature discusses how student perceptions of classroom values were significantly and
positively related to students’ enjoyment. Developments of students’ interest were really affected
by their peers and classmates. The aforesaid collection of literature some contributory factors to
track and strand choice and how it might affect their level of satisfaction such as family,
personality, job opportunities, and peer influence.

These batch of literature will help the readers to clearly understand the topic. It is useful for the
Junior High School Students to give more ideas about the Technical – Vocational Strand,
especially the Information and Communication Technology. These are evidences why many
students choose the Information Communication Technology Strand.

According to Help Them Change the World with a career in Information and Communications
Technology (2016), there are top five reasons in choosing ICT. First each your potential in a
field that applies to all aspects of everyday life, from the car you drive to the movies you watch
and the way governments and businesses interact with people. Second Opt for an accessible
sector that provides good workng conditions: competitive salaries, the opportunity to
telecommute, flextime and workdays that allow for a better work – life balance.

Third, make a positive difference in the world by choosing a profession that drives today’s
important issues, including education, natural resource management health care communications.

Fourth, showcase your creativity and leadership skills in a versatile career that suits different
types of profiles.
Lastly, take on exciting challenges focused on innovation and problem solving in a cutting edge
industry that is in constant evolution.

According to Mendoza (2015), this literature helps to discover the appropriate coruses for
students with their interest, skill and values. To inform the possible sources and should to use in
realizing their dreams focus on improving the skill and to aware in choosing the track in SHS.

A research study by Goyal, Purohit, and Bhagat (2010) also says that ICT is potentially powerful
tools for effecting educational opportunities when it comes to technological factors that needed
to be considered some of the are available, Technical Support to use Information And
Communication Technology at the institution. In the teacher’s factors, some of them are
teacher’s attitude towards the use of technology and availability of IT teacher.

The use of Information and Communication Technology was effective both for learning and
teaching. When it comes to factors that affect it, they all say that the top factors are availability
of equipment and teachers who are able to teach it and also the thought of students in choosing
appropriate courses for them.

This study is to give information the the students to know the skills and effects about Information
and Communications Technology or ICT. Technology becomes part of our daily life. Some
people want to develop their knowledge about it and the government introduces ICT as
specialization to help them.

Most countries including Philippines who uses ICT see that its integration boost and heighten the
quality of education. The most common factors that affect it are the availability of equipment and
mentors. One of the reasons why students choose ICT is because it helps to improve our country
and to increase economic status and to give a time other literatures and studies included how
students choose and “should” choose their career track, based on skills and how their gender
effect their career choice.
