INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Career choice is one of the most important decision a student and profession has to

make. Whether that decision is to select a specialization, organization or a profession, it

should be made after careful consideration of the internal and external environment. This

choice is crucial as it shall drive what will be the individual daily schedule for the rest of

their life. Furthermore, it will have a direct impact on their other aspect of life such as life

style self-satisfaction work-life balance and quality of life.

The career choice decision is also difficult not just because of the range of career

options available to an individual in the current environment, but having a adequate

understanding of career choice without getting into it. Too often only after a person has

made sustainable commitments in time, energy, and money or has cut off other

opportunities by taking steps to enter a career, does he or she find that is not what was

expected or wanted. Making a career choice requires getting in touch with our selves

and our surrounding. There are deary two ways of looking at and assisting options. On

one hand it is about intuition and listening to the life and how we influence the world. On

the other hand it is about the evaluation of the inner self and the environment and use

the brain to the evaluation is usually made in a relaxing environment both physically and

mentally.

The latter involves considering the pros and cons of each of the option that come from

the first part. Having a work lite balance involves determination and persistence while

looking a head and at the same time being not hugely critical of the past and enjoys the

accomplishment and achievements. In this world, each person would know the right
career for then and all required elements would fall into place. Choosing a career can

prove daunting. Anything from fear to lack of awareness can toss up a road lock on the

path to a career choice decision. The more you know about the pitfalls of choosing a

career choice a career the more prepared you’ll be when faced with the process. Some

people believe that only one perfect career exist for each individual. There are many

career that share the same characteristic. Instead of seeking one work path that seems

like a perfect fit, it’s important to investigate of a variety of options that have features in

common. The element of the unknown often rears its head in a search for the high

career choice. A person may fear that they won’t like the career once they commits to it.

Talking to people who have held the same type of job for several years and spending

some time as a observer at the desired place of employment. Career choice may

influence career student close maybe someone in the students life has made a

significant impact or impression leading to a definite career choice may influence student

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies which provided the

researcher ideas, information, and insights relevant to the present study.

RELATED LITERATURE

Career choice preparedness is mostly significance because it creates in the

mind of the learners as sense of informed with regard to their future jobs.

According to Artega (2014), the ultimate goal of career guidance is the contribute

to the holistic development of young people, supporting their transition to the

world of work and decision making as they strive for continues improvement

throughout their lives. A student career choice preparedness has significant in

future prospects since it acts as driving force in the motivation of students follow

the certain direction. In fact, students are likely to get motivated by the future

expectation of the profession rather than immediate salary in a certain

occupation. Statistically, however, the result of the analysis of the motivational

factors indicate that there is a significant relationship between future prospects,

prestige, better salary and career choice (Umar, 2014) Career choice

preparedness has significance to students on the implication on their choice to

see salary, job security, prestige, solving family problem, availability of job and

future prospects in their choice demand. Generally, students are there for

motivated due to availability of information they to have in order to launch and a

successful occupational life , along with all of the accomplishments , pride

stability and progression. Career choice preparedness helps learners to find and

access career information and create awareness to students toward the right and

informed career. According to Baloch and Shah (2014), in their study about

significance of awareness about selection and recruitment processes in students

career decision making , awareness about selection and recruitment processes

has significance and considerable impact on students right career choice. Abbasi

and Sarwat (2104) in their study about factors inducing career choice found that

there is significance of career choice preparedness because it helps students to

make the right decisions with consideration of monetary and non-monetary

benefits associated with potential professions. Devi ( 2018 ) in the study about

preparing for career among adolescents found that career choice is significant

since it helps students to choose better jobs than the jobs of their parents.

Related Studies

Freeman (2017) in their study about career course impact on college

student’s career decisions indicated that a career course can positively influence

student’s ability to navigate the career decision making process, especially

increasing their career choice certainly. Norman- Burdolf and Vanderford ( 2017 )

studied about preparing future professionals for enhancing workforce readiness

and found that preparing students for future professionals courses helps students

first to understand the realities of the job market and the variety of career paths

available, Second to realize what’s skills are required for transition to a career,

Third to identify resources that can be leveraged in order to obtain a job within a
chosen career path, and Fourth to gain an appreciation for what be done within

ones academic training to prepare a career. Khazi and Aklaq (2017) in their

study about factors affecting students career choice found that parents

professions influence students on the career choice and that education of

parents has a significant influence on the student career choice. According

to Pang ( 20014) in the study on factors affecting students career choice

in New Zealand, students of both genders would prefer to seek guidance

with regard to career choice to their mothers or stepmothers than their

fathers or stepfathers for career advice, Specifically, the study established

that 62.9% of respondents.Wachan (2018) in the study on relationship

between parental variables and career choices among students in mixes day

secondary schools in Kenya found that 59.4% of the respondents agreed that

their parents had confidence and believed in their abilities.

Theoretical Framework

Self-awareness can be defined as the knowledge that you acquire that relate to the

different facts of your personality including your strengths, weakness, beliefs, interest,

motivation and emotions. It is the process that helps you to get to know yourself better

and identify your career needs. John Holland’s Theory of career choice (RIASEC)

maintains that in choosing a career, people prefer jobs where they can be around others

who are like them. They search for environments that will let them use their skills and

abilities, and express their attitudes and valve, while taking on enjoyable problems and

roles. Holland assets that people of the same personality type working together in

a job create an environment that fits and rewards their type. Within this theory
are six basic types of work environment , which correlate directly to the

personality types. Holland emphases that people who choose to work in an

environment similar to their personality type are more likely to be successful and

satisfied. This idea is important as it shows Hollands theory can be flexible,

incorporating combination topics. Hollands theory takes a problem- solving and

cognitive approach to career planning. His model has been very influential in

career counselling. It has been employed through popular assessment fool such

as the self- Directed Search, Vocational preference inventory and the strong

interest inventory.

studied and documents were examined to answer the questions communicated in

the statement of the problem. The analytical procedure are arranged according to

the sequence of specific questions.

DATA ANALYSIS

The data were gathered by using the statistical tools frequency count

percentage, ranking distribution and weighted mean. The responses to the

questionnaire will be tabulated for easy interpretation and analysis. The study

ranked the responses to determine the top most answer and the weighted mean

to measure the different observation in accordance with their relative importance

or value. Frequency Count is used in organizing the sources, this facilities the

statistical result for the analysis and interpretation of data. It was used totally the

received from the respondents and to arrange the order of the degree of the

result in the data collected. This Chapter discusses the data gathered from the

Bicol College Senior School and explains how the total data result we gathered.
Result of the Study

Last November 15 2019 the researchers conducted a survey in Bicol

College Senior High School among 50 students to answer the survey

questionnaire Each section has 25 chosen respondents to answer the survey on

how students selecting a career. Table 1 shows the total frequency and

percentage of each section’s answer. Table 2 shows the data gathered from

different sections on how the students affects in selecting a career. The table 3

shows the overall results of data gathered in this research conducted in Bicol

College Senior High School. In this research we gathered different information on

how the students affects in selecting a career . It shows that some of students

don’t know that course they want to choose in college.

Interpretations of Data

Based on the research, out of 50 respondents the highest answer of

percentage is in question number one where 50 students answer “yes”

.This means , a lot of people have known social media very well. The first

question shows that out of 50 respondents. 40 of them knows how to choose

a career. The second question asks about the learning of the students

whether it was an effective tool or not. Based on the research 25 of them

answered “yes” and 25 of them said “no”. In positive side it shows that

students have a decision making in choosing a course in college. The

negative side shows that it can cause a wrong decision in selecting a

course in college. Based on the findings we have to spend time in

thinking in what course that are be chosen.
