I love the
challenge of teaching them new concepts and having fun while doing it. I like learning
from them, watching them and figuring out what they are thinking and processing. I get
satisfaction from watching a child grow and overcome obstacles throughout the school
year. It feels like the best personal victory. My personal knowledge of teaching started
when I coached gymnastics part time as a teen. I loved teaching! I then volunteered at
a charter school here in town after I had my own kids. I fell in love again with the whole
kid and teaching thing. I have currently been with this school for 17 years in various
positions, but always based around student learning. I feel that all the years I have
watched and experienced will assist me in becoming a successful teacher. I have also
taken over classes before when we could not get a substitute. Teaching fits my
personality and style. It comes naturally. My field observation helped me because I got
to see another teacher’s perspective in a grade level I had not see or been in before.
Kindergarten. What a joy to see those little minds at work. It helped me understand that
little one’s minds can only stay on a subject for a small amount of time. You must switch
what you are teaching quite often to keep the students interested.
My educational philosophy and psychological orientations that mostly fit my current beliefs
about education are going to greatly affect my students. I will be accepting of all students. I
believe that not all students learn at the same pace and all learn in different manners. I will try
to have the children learn through doing and seeing and hearing, if it is possible. I will use a lot
of the stated “Logic” philosophy. It is a process of reasoning and identifies rules that will enable
the child, thinker, to reach a conclusion. I will be asking questions that move from general to
specific for them to draw their own conclusion to the question. My psychological orientation will
be that of Behaviorism. I believe in building a positive rapport with the children so they enjoy
coming to school and have someone they can trust to ask questions to. I would like to
empower my students by giving them choices in their learning experiences. I will ask for
feedback about how they feel in my classroom. I want them to feel safe and willing to
contribute to a curriculum or discussion about the subject. Let’s learn to work together to help
one another, and accept different points of view. I don’t recall a historical event that set the
stage for how I think about children and schools. I have always adored children and how their
students. I will implement Peer Learning where no one knows me better than my own
co-workers. We will work the room together to hit all the types of learners I will have in
my room. Two different styles of teaching will cover more students to help.I will also use
want to do better and will strive for high scores and better grades. I naturally will apply
Microlearning which takes a complex subject and breaks it down into smaller digestible
pieces. This is the way I learn. When information is given to us in tiny chunks the brain
has a much bigger chance of retaining it. Along with spaced repetition. Repeating
curriculum that was presented at an earlier time. My charter school is an advocate for
Interactivity and Gamification. When learning doesn’t feel like learning, it’s at its most
effective. Where students are compelled to do better to score higher or get faster at
Enriching the regular curriculum or extension lesson can be carried out to the whole
class at one time, but if needed, small groups could be necessary. Student diversity and
variability will be addressed as openly as possible. I want to learn about other cultures,
traditions, and customs. I find it fascinating that we are all under the same moon and we
are all so different and all so alike at that same time. Assessments will be given weekly
The characteristics and skills I will need to possess to continue in this career are the
desire to teach! I feel people take this job and don't take those children's lives seriously.
Just a paycheck for some of them. I want to be understanding, patient, calm, soothing,
fun, driven, compassionate, ambitious, fun, and be the best I can be at what I do. My
skill set for this job includes coaching as a young one and then working at my charter
school in the classroom for many years now. I am currently taking classes to become
more knowledgeable and maybe graduate and earn my bachelors in early elementary
