The verb ‘DO’ and the auxiliary ‘DO’ are two different words.
The verb (to) DO (did, done, doing) means “faire”, it’s a verb like any other.
The auxiliary DO doesn’t have its own meaning, it’s only used in some
grammatical constructions. It has only three forms: do, does, did (+ negatives).
Like the other verbs (to) DO requires the use of the auxiliary DO in the
interrogative, negative forms etc..
• Look at the sentences with ‘do’. Circle the verb when it’s an auxiliary,
underline it when it’s a regular verb (a main verb).

Use past simple questions to ask about finished events in the past
• Where did you study?
• Who organized your accommodations?
• How were the meals?
A. Object questions
You often ask question in the past simple with did if you want a precise
information about the object of a sentence.
B. Subject questions
You can also ask questions about the subject of the sentence. Do not use did
with a subject question.
