The Golden Fish
A long time ago, there was a fisherman who lived with his wife near a river.
They fished at the river for food every day. One day, the man got nothing from
the river from morning to night. He was afraid they would have nothing to eat so
he tried hard to put his net into the river again. Finally, he got a small golden fish.
Suddenly, he heard a voice saying, ‘Please, please let me go.’ ‘Who is this?”
said the man in surprise. ‘I am the golden fish in your net. If you let me go, I will
grant you three wishes,’ said the golden fish.
The man looked at the golden fish. He thought it was really too small for a
meal, He let it go back to the river. ‘Thank you for letting me go. You may come
here again to find me when you want your wishes,’ the golden fish said. ‘Tlow
can I find you?’ asked the man. ‘You call “golden fish” three times. I will appear,’
replied the golden fish.
When the man went home, his wife was waiting for him. ‘Where is our
food?’ said the man’s wife. ‘I got a fish but I let the fish go,’ said the fisherman.
‘How stupid you are!’ said the woman angrily.
