Reflection: "21 Century Literacy Skills and Teaching Resources"
This week, we discussed four topics, and the following are my reflections from the
various
topics discussed.
“21st Century Literacy Skills and Teaching Resources”
We discussed the following 21st Century Literacy Skills and Teaching Resources:
Student
led Learning (Cooperative Learning), Inquiry- based Classroom Environment,
Collaborative
Activities, HOTS Activities and Creative Learning. First, when we say Student Led
Learning, as
I understand it from the report, it refers to a situation in which a student can facilitate
their own
learning. Teachers usually group their students in order to evaluate their strengths and
weaknesses.
Essentially, they work in a small group and have a common objective to complete or
accomplish
a shared learning goal, but this is always under the supervision of the teacher. Second,
students
who engage in inquiry-based learning are encouraged to conduct research and
investigate topics
that they are interested in learning about, as well as to ask questions and communicate
their
thoughts. Third, in order to successfully participate in a group, Collaborative
Activities students
must go through a stage process procedure. You must demonstrate willingness to
sacrifice in a
group situation where you must be a part of the production of your projects and you
should adapt
to your group and varied surroundings. Fourth, Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)
Activities,
students are encouraged to think critically about how they handled a certain situation,
and they are
pushed to use their ingenuity in order to come up with such an innovative idea.
Essentially, students
are free to use their own methods in understanding the learning process. Lastly, the
purpose of
creative learning is to empower student or younger generation to effectively manage
potential
circumstances and life goals, while also ensuring that you are conscious of yourself as
well as the
world you dwell in.
“Learning Skills”
In this report we discussion the different learning skills such as Critical Thinking,
Creativity, Collaboration and communication. Frist, critical thinking is quite common
to us; in fact, we have studied it numerous times. This skill becomes more necessary
as a student since we
must be concentrated and cautious of having analyses that is easily understood by
everyone. For
example, while arguing towards something, you must prepare a logical statement that
is already
formed in order to avoid getting lost, and you must have relevant evidence in order to
achieve such
a judgment. As a nutshell, you can't just debate about something without having
bullets with you;
you have to consider how you fired the point critically. Second, , Creativity It will
largely inspire
students to use their imaginations and come up with creative ideas, as it is believed
that when you
use your imagination, many wonderful inventions are created. . There are many
activities that you
can do as a teacher to help your students expand their inventiveness by creating
projects that will
benefit not only themselves but also the community. Third, Collaboration, working
together as a
group can make a huge difference. As they say, the more the merrier, which means
that more ideas
from members of the group can ultimately help in completing the projects or
performing tasks. .
Lastly, communication is critical in all situations; it is a way in which everyone in a
group
communicates well; if you have this, things will flow smoothly as you interact with
one another.
“Literacy Skills”
We discuss literacy skills, which enable students in acquiring knowledge and
understanding, including through the use of technology and media. First, information
literacy. As
students in the twenty-first century, we are all aware of how media has controlled our
lives; we
sometimes spend the majority of our time on social media every day, and we are
reluctant avoid
news articles, content that is not credible, fake, or biased. As a matter of fact, as
students, we must
learn how to evaluate the effectiveness, reliability, and truthfulness of internet sites, as
well as how
to properly credit the work of others. We should also avoid sharing post information
on social
media without first conducting research to ensure that the content you are sharing is
accurate.
Second, media literacy entails not just the ability to read and comprehend messages
sent through
the internet, but also the ability to think critically about what we see, read, and hear on
the internet.
At last, we aim to be technology literate in this way. We all know that most of our
work today is
done with the use of technology, and we believe that this makes our lives a little bit
easier, so in
order to achieve these kinds of inventions, we need to be technologically literate in
how to use
things that can actually help us in everyday use.“Life Skills”
In this presentation, we discussed life skills that will be very useful in handling
challenges
that occur in real life situations, as well as how we interact in such a way that we will
be capable
of addressing such issues. We also talk about the importance of life skills including
flexibility,
leadership, initiative, productivity, and social skills. These are just a few of the skills
that will help
students achieve success. First, flexibility we must be flexible in responding to
changing conditions
because change is constant in this world. As a teacher, you must encourage students to
be flexible
by allowing them to change and letting them to open themselves up to new
opportunities. Students
are faced with a variety of subjects and tasks at school, which necessitates flexibility
in everything
they do, as well as the ability to adapt to new situations and complete tasks with
utmost creativity.
Second, Leadership, we all know that in a group, somebody always takes the lead and
initiates the
task first, therefore we can say that this function is critical to an organization's success.
A leader
should assist in every task that the organization undertakes; however, as leader, we
must always
hear to the suggestions of our subordinates. This does not mean that as the leader, you
must fulfill
all tasks; of course, you cannot do so without the assistance of the entire team. Third,
you take the
initiative to complete tasks or projects without being told to do so; such that, even if
no one tells
you what to do, you take the initiative to complete the task Fourth, as students, we
strive to be
productive every day at school, at home, and in all we do; however, this can be
difficult to achieve
due to laziness, lack of motivation, or any other negative factors that force us to be
unproductive.
That is why we must prioritize, take breaks when we are tired, and return to what we
are doing,
constantly believe that we can complete tasks on time, and always pay more attention
to what
makes you happy. Fifth social skills we need to acquire these skills in order to
successfully
communicate through verbal and nonverbal means because interaction is also a
needed.Multicultural literacy and Globalization
We discussed about multicultural literacy and globalization. Multicultural literacy
explains
how the school curriculum has been modified to include multicultural literacy, which
teaches
students about the value of diversity and equality in the school. We all know as
teachers that we
have a diverse group of students who come from various origins, ethnicities, and
beliefs. We
should actively encourage diversity in the classroom; because, as it's already part of or
incorporated
in our curriculum, it is up to us to figure out how to do so and how to motivate
students. One of
the strategies you should use as a teacher is to talk less and let more students speak;
by allowing
them to communicate in class and listening their different opinions, you will be able
to understand
where they are coming from. This will also allow you to learn from and get to know
your learners
better. Second, teachers explain and support students' knowledge construction,
implying that
teachers are facilitators of their students' learning, but they also hold students
accountable for their
own learning under the guidance of the teacher. There are numerous strategies to
employ, and as
potential educators, we must be knowledgeable of all of them and be able to
implement them in
the classroom.
Globalization on Education plays an important role that will enable people to attain all
of
their goals and dreams. Education brings up a vast range of possibilities, most of
which will lead
to growth. The world has changed dramatically as a result of globalization, both for
the better and
for the worst. Without a question, education is one of the aspects that has been
impacted by these
developments. We all know how globalization makes our lives easier in terms of
education; with
the great changes in technology, it makes our learning more accessible and easier by
allowing us
to create more activities that will genuinely cater to the students' learning needs.
However, with
this transition, our teachers must be technologically literate. We should undergo
training on how
to utilize this technology so that we can teach our students how to do it. See how
globalization
affects our educational system; yet, it is up to us to determine how to use it properly at
all times.
