Reflective Journaling

Each student will be required to submit one (1) journal reflection with documentation over
time. This journal will serve as a reflection on the thoughts and progress toward professional
growth as an administrator/educator. Personal journal reflection should be an examination of and
reflection on actions and observations in relation to preparation as an instructional leader, and
developed over time. Critical incidents or experiences related to administration/supervision may be
analyzed and discussed in relation to current experience and/or insights gained through new
knowledge, skills or values derived from the courses of study. The reflective journal is to be built
upon from Midterm to Finals.
This was the first time I was on live TV Broadcast for a Learning Action Cell for Araling Panlipunan. I was
conducting a “MINI TOUR” AROUND OUR School’s Library and it was a learning opportunity because I
came to learn that being an Araling Panlipunan Teacher, I have to help the school in preserving the reading
materials of history books. I was enlightened by the words from the facilitator from DepEd TV Manila that
we have to allow ourselves to still continue to learn and not let any pandemic stop us from learning
important things especially our nation’s history.

Last March 2022, I was a Resource speaker for the Araling Panlipunan Performance Task Creator. I came to
realize that when one reads a lot, that person can do unimaginably productive things. I came to realize that I
have the knowledge and capacity to help improve curriculum instruction through my skills in making
performance tests. I was also really amazed at how my co-teachers created their own performance tasks. We
have shared our knowledge and skill as we have gathered for this event.
I was asked to be the Master’s of Ceremony for this event: Founder’s Day”. I came to realize that as
teachers, we have to develop communication skills among us. As a leader and a future school head, we
should be able to convey our message effectively and respectfully. I am thankful for the opportunity given to
me by my colleague to become the MC because I found the “funny” side of me during the Q and A Portion
of the Program. I was amazed at how spontaneous I was during that day. I made my co teachers laugh with
the witty jokes I threw yet considering that I am still a professional at the same time. I have yet to develop
more with the joke sills but I thought “Not Bad” for a first time MC.

Learning must continue. As a teacher, we should always equip our minds with brilliant
ideas. I was lucky because I was given the opportunity to learn with my co teachers about
the Araling Panlipunan Performance tasks creation. I realized that I have to develop my
sense of fairness in assessing students’ performance.

Learning is fun with History mixed with Art. This activity is one of the many activities I had
with my colleagues in school in making performance tasks for Araling Panlipunan students. I
came to realize that in learning our nation’s history, we can be creative and maybe mixed
appreciation of our country’s art masterpieces to get a glimpse of our rich culture and
heritage. We can also make performance tasks using so many ways.
As learning practitioners we play many roles – we are process designers and facilitators, panel moderators, skills
trainers, advisors, team coaches, and sometimes we are MCs (Master of Ceremonies), helping weave together the
different learning threads of a larger event.

I recently took on this role at the Department of Araling Panlipunan’s Christmas Party, having done this on a number
of occasions with other groups. This event had high production values, with beautiful lighting, video cameras and
screens in all directions recording and simulcasting, and, I might mention, 50 people watching every move you make
(or at least the intention to).

I personally find this role – Master of Ceremonies (we couldn’t come up with a satisfying gender neutral alternative -
any ideas?) – more than a little nerve wracking. However, I realized that I should not be bothered with the negative
thoughts that I have because this is a festive event.
Teaching is a complex and challenging undertaking. When one unpacks the different aspects of a teacher’s
work the list is long and varied and encompasses more than merely standing in front of a class of students
and delivering content. Churchill, et al. (2011) state that teacher quality comprises a teacher’s identity
together with knowledge and skills in pedagogy, content and theory.

Video has been used in teacher education since the 1960s (Sherin & Van Es, 2005). This tool has been
regarded as having the potential to provide a means by which the complexities of teaching might be captured
thereby enabling teacher education students to observe and reflect upon what they are seeing (Wang &
Hartley, 2003). Sherin and Van Es (2005) discuss the concept of a teacher’s ability to “notice”. Video is
regarded as a tool that can help teacher education students develop the ability to notice what is occurring in
the classroom.
What Is The Goal Of Team Building?

The core idea behind team building is to empower individuals to contribute to common goals. I have come to realize
that this get-together is a way to be with the department members and sharing insights and learings. The very success
of an organization depends on the ability of its employees to work as a team, understand each other’s strengths as well
as weaknesses, take interest in each other’s interest, and deliver the quality work that is desired, together.

Below, you’ll find the range of benefits that an organization or a company can reap when it builds a team with strong
purpose and objective.

Improved productivity levels

Increased morale and motivation across teams
Improved workplace collaboration
Encouraged creativity among individuals
Positive reinforcement
Higher job satisfaction among employees
Improved quality of work
Changes in teaching practice take time. Perhaps one might not need to change everything
about their teaching. Some things may be working. Look for the positives and work on the
focus of the reflection. The more reflective a teacher becomes, the more aware he or she is of
how capable the students are. Teaching can be a rewarding experience from which we learn
every day.
