MODULE 5-8
1. If you are the Manager in an organization, what is your role of influencing managing Safety? Write it
in a paragraph form (20 pts).
As a manager it is my responsibility to make sure that employees follow health and
safety laws and creating policies for a safer work environment. I must take measures in identifying
potential workplace hazards and improve existing conditions. Though everyone is responsible for
their own safety and health and for that of others whose activities they may influence or control, I
also must ensure that I am familiar with, and fulfil my obligations, for promoting effective health and
safety.
2. Give at least 5 out of 10 General fire safety precautions and explain its significance in the workplace.
(10pts.)
Exit doors should be clearly marked.
Exit routes and exit access or fire doors must be clear and unblocked to allow for
quick and safe exit in case of an fire emergency. Blocking and obstructing exit doors and
routes will create delay, panic, and confusion in the case of an emergency and acts as a safety
hazard.
Flammable substances should be kept elsewhere outside the building.
This is to reduce the likelihood of fire. Highly flammable chemicals should be
stored, transported and used in a safe manner which reduces the risk of fire and reduces the
likelihood of them adding fuel to any fire on site.
A fire hose and buckets should be available and kept for the purpose of extinguishing
class A fires rapidly.
This should be kept in an area that is visible and accessible by all in order to
quickly extinguish class A fires.
Paper storage should not be near lights, fans, electrical boxes, heaters or outlets
Paper is combustible. While solid blocks of paper may not be easily ignited, once they
have caught fire flames can spread rapidly and be difficult to extinguish. Loose paper, shrink-
wrap material and flammable liquids or gases can ignite easily and spread the fire to other
materials.
Practice fire drills should be held so employees and boarders are familiar with their
responsibilities should a real fire occur.
It will allow employees and boarders to practice evacuation procedures in a
simulated situation to ensure they are fully aware of how to safely exit the building. The more
familiar employees are with fire drill procedures, the higher the chance that staff remain safe
and well during an emergency.
3. Examine the electrical hazard in your home and create or apply corrective and preventive measures.
Show proof of evidence by providing photos or a narrative report. (20pts)
