PM, a LEMON (CITRUS LIMON) PEEL AS AN ALTERNATIVE FLOOR WAX A Research Paper Presented to the Faculty of the Junior Highschool Department ACADEMIA DE SAN AGUSTIN CALBAYOG - INC. Calbayog City In Partial Fullfillment for the Course Requirement in Research Researchers: Janel Anne Mendez Michael Renz S. Andaya DATE OF SUBMISSION: April 15, 2021CHAPTER 1 ~ PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING This chapter presents the background of the Study, statement of the problem, objectives of the Study, Significance of the study, respondents of the study, conceptual framework, and scopes and delimitations of the study Background of the Study In recent years, cleaning had been identified as an occupational risk due to an increased incidence of reported Fespiratory effects like asthma and asthma—like symptoms among cleaning workers. Due to the lack of systematic occupational hygiene analysis and workplace exposure data, it absolutely was not clear which cleaning-related exposures induce or aggravate asthma and other respiratory effects. Cleaning products’ ingredients of concern with respect to respiratory and skin irritation and sensitization assess the potential for inhalation and dermal exposures to these ingredients during common cleaning tasks. Floor wax is a preparation made typically of a mixture of beeswax and vegetable waxes in a suitable vehicle and used for polishing and preserving the finish of floors. Wax is a pliable or liquid composition used especially in surfaces, excluding air, making patterns or impressions, or producing a polished surface. Floor waxes are meant to increase and maintain hardness and glossiness in flooring, such as concrete floors, and create resistance against slips and scuff marks. And for centuries, these had been a solution extensively used for floor care. Lemon Peel as an Alternative Floor Wax dane} Anne J. Mendez and Michael Renz S Andaya Copynght @ 2020-2021‘The benefits of the floor wax when applied properly is that it offers high shine that gives advantages for commercial and business spaces and homes of every individuals. Commercial waxes are made of synthetic materials or a mix of artificial materials and chemical components. For decades now, there was no doubt about the effectivity and reliability that the floor wax had given us. We trust that floor wax will serve its function without a doubt, but what concerns industry professionals right now were the harsh chemical contents that might affect the environment around it. The most common synthetic wax ingredients used in floor wax are cresol, formaldehyde and hazardous chemicals like nitrobenzene, perchloroethylene, phenol, toluene, and xylene. Cresol is dangerous one’s health when inhaled. This substance had been shown to cause kidney and liver damage in people and can cause a myriad of health issues for animals. Formaldehyde had been linked to numerous medical conditions because it's an extremely toxic substance, but it was still found in many commercial floor wax cleaners. The health issues that had been linked to formaldehyde are cancer, asthma and reproductive dysfunction. It can also be lethal to many animals. Formaldehyde is a well-known irritant of the upper respiratory tract with symptoms such as eye, nose, and throat irritation commonly associated with indoor exposure to gas. Applying wax on the floor gives a natural appearance of the floor material and produces a relatively durable finish. It can help people to walk safely and can remove scratches caused by some factors. It can minimize the faults that can be seen on a wooden floors. [Lemon Peel as an Alternative Floor Wax » Janel Anne J. Mendez and Michael Renz S. Andaya Copyngnt @ 2020-2021Although floor wax is suitable for almost any type of floor and had been popular for a long time, many businesses and flooring industry professionals were starting to question its harsh chemical contents and the long-term effects that it might have for anyone in an environment with floor wax. So, it is now time to seek for alternative ways to make a more eco-friendly product to avoid any harmful effects on one's health. There are many alternatives that can be used instead of the synthetic materials used in commercial floor waxes. Alternatives that are from the natural Tesources and are non-toxic like lemons. Lemon, scientifically known as Citrus Limon, is a hybrid of the plant genus Citrus and are one of the most versatile fruits around. Its peels contain a list of vitamins, minerals and fibers like calcium, potassium and Vitamin C. Potassium is an ingredient used in commercial shoe polishes and given that lemon peels contain potassium, it can be a source to make an alternative floor wax. Summing up everything, this study will specifically talk about and test if lemon peels can truly be an alternative floor wax. Lemon Pee! as an ternative Floor Wax ‘Jane! Annie | Mendez and Michael Renz S. Andaya Copyright @ 2020-2021Statement of the Problem This study intends to determine the effectiveness of lemon peels as an alternative ingredient for making floor wax. Specifically, it aimed to answer the following questions: 1. Can lemon peels be a good alternative for making floor wax? 2. Is itas effective as commercialized floor wax products? In terms of: a. Shininess b. Longevity 3. Whatis the extent of effectiveness of the alternative used on wooden floors? 4. Does making alternative floor wax helps you to lessen your expenses? 5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the study? This study would mainly focus and assess on constructing an alternative floor wax to provide a more eco-friendly product and limit on wooden floors. The availability of some materials may limit the expansion of this study. This study will be conducted with limited amount of financial resources and time framework. Respondents of the Study Due to the pandemic we are currently facing, the respondents of study are only limited people specifically family members from Calbayog City Western Samar. The researchers chose their family members as their respondents because their study pertains to an alternative floor wax in a certain type of floor and it would also be easier for the researchers to conduct the testing of their product, observe the effectiveness of the product, and gather all the results from the respondents.
