Learning Outcome: To identify the weighted mean of the given ungrouped data set.

Find the weighted mean:

1.Find the mean salary for a small company which pays annual salaries to its employees
as shown in the following frequency distribution.
Salary No. of
P11,000 P12,500 P13,200 P18,500 P21,400 P25,600 10 9 8 6 3 2 Employees
Solution:
̅=∑ x w = (11,000) (10) + (12,500) (9) + (13,200) (8) + (18,500) (6) +

w (21,400) (3) + (25,600) (2)

38
= 554, 500
38
̅= 14, 592.11

2. Adidas sold 120 running shoes for a regular price of P5,000. For summer sale the shoes
were reduced to P4,500 and 145 were sold. At the final clearance, the price was reduced to
P3,000 and the remaining 35 were sold. What was the weighted mean price of Adidas
running shoes?
Solution:
̅=∑ x w = (5,000) (120) + (4,500) (145) + (3,000) (35) w 300
= 1,357,500
300
̅= 4,525
3.If somebody invests P15,000 at 7 percent, P20,000 at 10 percent, and P 30,000 at 8
percent, what is the average return on these investments?
Solution:

̅=∑ x w = (15,000) (7) + (20,000) (10) + (30,000) (8)

w 25
= 545,000
25
̅= 21,800

Learning Outcome: To identify the mean of the given ungrouped data set.
Find the mean:
1. A recent study showed that the cost of buying a 40 food items for 2-3 weeks consumption at
home during the ECQ was P6,500 in Tagbilaran City, P4,300 in Baclayon, P 5,700 in Panglao,
P4,800 in Dauis, P5,600 in Booy, and P4,100 in San Isidro. Determine the mean of these data.
Solution:

 = ∑ = 6,500 + 4,300 + 5,700 + 4,800 + 5,600 + 4,100

2. In a certain shopping mall, restaurants charge P 125, P150, P200, P165, P175, P 190,
P230,and P 180 for a regular dinner. Find the average cost.
Solution:
 = ∑ = 125 + 150 + 200+ 165 + 175+ 190 + 230 + 180
