 The people of Siquijor are called Siquijodnons.


 According to the 2015 census, it has a population
of 95,984. The average annual growth rate between
2000 and 2015 was 1.09%, lower than the national
growth rate of 1.87% for the same period.
 95% of the island's residents belong to the Catholic
Church, while the remainder belong to various
other Christian churches.
 The main spoken language in the island province

is Cebuano, with English and Tagalog often used


as a second language.

 The Spaniards (who tried to take over the Philippines)


used to call Siquijor “Isla del Fuego” or the “Island of
Fire”. This is because of the large swarms of fireflies
found in the island.
 Siquijor holds a “Healing Festival” once a year. This is a

great time to visit and witness faith healers as they heal


different illnesses with nothing but prayers and rituals.

 The island was first sighted by the Spaniards in


1565 during Miguel López de Legaspi's
expedition.
 Siquijor is subdivided into 6 municipalities.
Siquijor is the capital and most important port.
 The tagline of Siquijor is “Marine Paradise of
Central Visayas.”

 The province is made up of 6 municipalities and


134 barangays, with its capital named Siquijor
Municipality where 1/4 of the population resides.
 It is the third smallest province in the country in
terms of land area and population.

 The island is known for its mystic traditions that


the island’s tourism industry is capitalizing on
nowadays. They even have a day when shamans
and traditional healers gather together and perform
rituals for prosperity, every Good Friday of the
Holy Week usually during the last week of March
or early April.

 The island is really small – the coastal


circumference is only 102 km – making it the third
smallest province in the Philippines.
 There's No Airport on Siquijor Island. While there
are no flights to the island, Siquijor is easily
accessible via ferry.
