1 Possessive Pronouns
In this lesson, you will learn more about possessive pronouns. You will
learn how to correctly use them in a sentence and in agreement with its
antecedent. Enjoy each activity!

What is It
The italicized words in the sentences above are possessive pronouns.

A possessive pronoun shows possession or ownership.
a. Singular Possessive Pronouns
his hers its
b. Plural Possessive Pronouns
ours theirs
A possessive pronoun should agree with its antecedent in number
and gender. Antecedent is the noun which the pronoun refers to.
Agreement in number – If the antecedent of a pronoun is
singular, a singular pronoun is required. If the antecedent is
plural, a plural pronoun is required.
Examples:
1. Lei has a red umbrella. Her umbrella is red.
2. Lei and Jul has an umbrella. Their umbrella is red.
Agreement in gender – Masculine gender is indicated by his.
Feminine gender is indicated by her and hers. On the other
hand, neuter gender is indicated by its.
Examples:
1. This dog is Elly’s pet. This dog is his pet. This dog
is his.
2. This cat is Dalie’s pet. This cat is her pet. This cat is
hers.
3. The dog’s collar is cute. Its collar is cute.
