TEFL TERM END ASSIGNMENT

Q1.
It is important to evaluate the success and effectiveness of the courses and this
can be achieved through the process of feedback to teachers, students as well as
the parents. Evaluation of educational development can provide this feedback.
Apart from this, it is really important to transfer assessment models across
different disciplines of education.
The Kirkpatrick’s model is a four model framework which provides detailed
guidelines to evaluate the success and effectiveness of the course:
Level 1: Reaction
This is the basic level of Kirkpatrick’s Model of training evaluation which
allows the teacher to understand ‘how the lessons/courses were received by the
students’. Whether the students are satisfied with the class? Whether the class is
happy with the education or the education pattern that they are following? By
answering such type of questions, the teacher can evaluate and decide about
whether to follow the same technique in the future or to make some changes to
make the course more effective and engaging for the students.
Feedback form:

Level 2: Learning
Under this level, psychotic measures such as interest tests or aptitude tests can
be used to evaluate learning outcomes and it is quite important to evaluate a
student’s learning before and after the class. It could focus on any one or all of
the skills (Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking and Grammar).
The teacher can provide the following interest test to the students to assess their
interests before commencing with the course. This test will aid the instructors to
assess the learning of the course.

Level 3: Behaviour
This level focuses on how and to what extent the students apply their learning.
Behaviour change evaluation is more difficult to quantify and interpret than
reaction and learning evaluation. To analyse the change, it is necessary to
observe it throughout time. Behavioural assessment can be carried out in
various ways, out of which the teacher can ask the students to perform a skit or
an extempore at the end of the lesson or course.
Activity: The teacher can show them a video or an animated short film like
“PIP” and then she/he can divide the class into pairs and ask the students to
write some dialogues based on what they saw and understood as well as the
teacher can ask them to perform a skit or episode on the same.

Level 4: Results
This level talks about how a student’s improved knowledge and performance
influences his/ her surroundings. It depends upon the capability to use English
in life situations.
To evaluate it the teacher can hold a debate competition in the class to assess
whether the students provide their opinions accurately and hold on to the
discussion well or not.
Some debate topics:
 Animal testing should be banned.
 School uniforms should be required
 Online courses good or bad

Level 5: Return on investments

This level gives the trainer records about the economic effect schooling
programs at the organization & also deals with the economic effect of
schooling.

The stages and the activities you have included are fine and would help the trainer in

getting an idea about the effectiveness of the course and then the trainer can make changes

accordingly.

My favourite festival is “Deepawali”. Deepawali, the festival of

celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout India and in some
other parts of the world. It marks the victory of Lord Rama over
Ravena and the homecoming of Lord Rama after an exile of 14
years. As a matter of fact, this festival is the symbol of victory of the
forces of virtue over evil.
On the day of Diwali, we invite their near and dear ones. On this
day, sweets are made and distributed among friends and relatives.
People indulge in fun and frolic on the day of Diwali. We light
candles, lamps, and diyas in our homes. All the streets, shops,
markets are decorated with lights. We all worship Lord Ganesha
and Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity and good
fortune. So that goddess Lakshmi comes to our house and provide
our family good fortune, wealth, and prosperity.

We all buy new clothes and wear on the day of this auspicious
festival. We all buy firecrackers to burn in the night and enjoy with
the family... We all distribute sweets and Diwali gifts to each other...

Q3.
English learners who have an opportunity to live in an English-speaking
environment while studying are fortunate and have a huge advantage over the
ones who have contact with theHOLI
language only at anIPAD
institute twice or thrice a
X-MAS
week. Even if they have daily exposure, those English speakers get to use the
language within the classroom only and it is really important to have an
efficient classroom environment for effective learning.
In order to facilitate ESL/EFL classes efficiently there are many different
language learning methods in like, Grammar Translation, Natural Method,
Audio-Lingual Method, Communicative Language Teaching, etc. The most
suitable learning methods are audio-lingual method and communicative
language teaching.
1. Communicative Language Teaching:
Communicative Language Teaching is an approach which suggests that the
language learning will take place when the students have enough exposure to
the language and they have an opportunity to use it. It focuses on learning
through interactive activities such as role play, games etc. that helps learners to
facilitate learning in an engaging way. It helps the learner to learn authentic
conversation that can help them in day to day life.
Example:
E- What is your favourite destination to visit?
F- I like Paris.
E- When are you planning to visit?
F- I will be visiting Paris, next weekend.
E- How will you get there?
F- I will go there by plane.

2. Audio-Lingual Method:
This method also helps in the improvement of listening and speaking skills as
the ESL learners have trouble with listening and speaking skills. It prepares the
learners for real life situations where they can have well-formed conversations.
Audios are used to increase the listening comprehension.
The lingual method makes it easy to learn English, especially in remembering
the words / sentences. There are several techniques that can be done to
implement this method, such as memorization techniques, construct words,
equip, frequently asked questions, and so on. It focuses on repetitive drills
where the learners are conditioned into using the language correctly.
Example:
a. Learning through repetition, here the students need to repeat the teacher’s
model as quickly and accurately possible.
Teacher- I will eat an apple.
Student- I will eat an apple.
b. Audios clips can be used for listening practice and help the learner’s to
absorb the context of the situation.

Apart from language learning methods, a good instructor or teacher is really
important for effective language learning. Some of the attributes that a teacher
should have are:
 Adaptability and well organized :
An ESL teacher should be considerate of learner’s interest and goals and adapt
their teachings and lesson plans accordingly as well as should be well organized
for proper and steady teaching flow.
 Patience and sensitivity :
Teachers should be patient because teaching a foreign language can be very
challenging at times.
A teacher encounters students from different cultures. It is important for him/her
to be sensitive towards them so that they can facilitate healthy learning
environment.
The two methods and the skills you have mentioned are good and would
work in an ESL setting
