    At the end of this unit, the students are expected to:

    Cognitive
    1. Discuss the interplay of Nursing process, evidence-based practice, and nursing theory as
    they relate to the future of maternal and child health nursing practice.
    2. Apply concepts of family centered care to maternal and child health nursing.
    3. Integrate knowledge of trends in maternal and child health care with the nursing process
    to achieve quality maternal and child health nursing care.
    4. Describe the evolution, scope, and professional roles for nurses in maternal child health
    nursing.
    Computer device or smartphone with internet access (at least 54 kbps; average data
    subscription will suffice)

    To facilitate the practice of students’ web navigation skills, the following rules must be
    implemented:
    1. The use of search engines (e.g., Google, Yahoo) are allowed.
    2. Use navigation techniques as mentioned in the required readings.
    3. Students must submit this accomplished worksheet through Canvas upload.

    Case Scenario

    Ms. Chin Won, age 26, presents at the community health center in her initial prenatal care
    visit. She is found to have an elevated blood pressure and excessive swelling in her legs and feet.
    The fetus appears small on sonogram.

    If you were caring for Ms. Won, answer the following questions:

    1. What are some reasons that early prenatal care might have helped to decrease Chin
    Won’s risk for maternal mortality and perinatal mortality?
    2. What measures might the nurse take to ensure that Chin Won’s care is family centered?
    3. How might cultural assessment be beneficial when planning with Chin Won for health
    restoration and maintenance throughout the pregnancy and puerperium?
    4. How would the plan of care look if Chin Won were a single woman, a working mother, or
    a teen?
    5. Write a brief statement on your opinion regarding termination of pregnancy when the
    woman is at risk from the pregnancy and the fetus is healthy.
    6. Make at least 1 NCP
    Instructions:

    • Create a Visual presentation (PowerPoint) on the given scenario


    • One group will be chosen to present during synchronous class via zoom meeting for a
    maximum of 45 minutes.
    • Submit your PowerPoint presentation through canvas upload in the assignment submission
    tab provided.
