Emilio Jacinto y Dizon was born on December 15, 1875, at Tondo, Manila. He

was known as a Filipino General during the Philippine Revolution. At the age of 19,

he did not continue his college degree as a lawyer because he joined the secret

society called Katipunan. Emilio is very determined regarding the independence of

the Philippines. Therefore, he wrote textbooks that signaled the start of the

Revolution against the Spanish colonial government. His written works are Katipunan

nang Manga (Kartilya), Gising na mga Tagalog!!, Liwanag at Dilim, A la Patria, and

sa Bayang Tinubuan. He died because of malaria on April 16, 1899, in Laguna.

Emilio Jacinto and his writings were about how a Filipino should live by having

equal rights, justice, true piety, exemplary leadership, and love for fellowmen.

Moreover, he was known as a philosopher, an intellect, and a poet. Emilio Jacinto led

the Katipunans to attain freedom and equality where they have two commandments:

the love for the country and the love for the fellowman. Emilio Jacinto encourages

everyone, despite the differences, they should help each other with compassion. In

memory of Emilio Jacinto, he left a set of guiding principles for a free society reflected

in his works so that independent Filipinos will not succumb to darkness but will

continue to strive for enlightenment for all generations to come.

The NHCP's Emilio Jacinto: Utak ng Katipunan Documentary Film narrates all

the significant events and details in Emilio Jacinto's life, from his early years in the

Katipunan until his unfortunate death. At a very young age, he joined the Katipunan

movement and doubtlessly fought for the rights and freedom spared from the

Philippines' citizens. He courageously faced and sacrificed all he had to support the

movement; with his attitude and passion, he won the heart of the Katipuneros and

Andres Bonifacio, which paved the way for him to be the leader shortly after Bonifacio

died. His writings such as Primer of the Katipunan, A La Patria, and the Lightness

and Darkness firmly offered guiding principles and values on how every Filipino must

live. Despite the adverse events in the Katipunan, losing Andres Bonifacio, the chaos

in the Katipunan, and his very close death in their encounter with the civil guards, he

stood up honed heroes in the organization even though they are much older than he

is. The life of Emilio Jacinto shows that age is just a number, that we can do

everything for as long as we believe in ourselves.

Kartilya ng Katipunan made everyone, especially Filipinos, aware that the

Katipunan was a revolutionary Philippine society whose primary goal was to win

independence from Spain. This documentary demonstrates that there were

intellectual and moral revolutionaries working for the Philippines' independence.

Without them, we will not be able to inherit the bravery and courage of being real

Filipinos. Emilio Jacinto emphasizes the self-reflection and qualities that every

Katipuneros must embody. This document informs us that we are on the right track.

Living on the right track has an impact on others through serving as a role model.
HOLY ANGEL UNIVERSITY

Emilio Jacinto's Kartilya ng Katipunan was vital not only to the Katipuneros but

to all of the Filipinos. Especially at the time when the powerful forces of our foes

controlled our own country. Emilio Jacinto made rules and carried out his duties as a

leader, and this made the Filipinos realize that the only way to rescue the country and

be a better citizen is to be disciplined and follow orders. That is why our group is

amazed at how a single commander could change his people's attitudes.
