APPLICATION
Read through the questions below and respond to those that spark your interest:
1. Why do I teach the way I do?
I teach the way I do because I want the children who pass my way to have the opportunity,
at least during their time with me, to practice what it means to be equal and free. We are a
young nation and our experiment in democracy is only just getting under way. If we are to
succeed, it won't be because some hero swoops in to save us, but rather because we
decide we must do it together, day-to-day, thinking critically, speaking honestly, listening
passionately, and acting as if we are, indeed, equal and free.
2. Why am I a teacher?
There can be few things as rewarding as making a tangible difference in shaping the lives
of young people, inspiring and mentoring them to become the best they can be. Much like
doctors, nurses and vets, teaching is more than just a job. It's a true vocation. Many people
work to live, but the rewarding nature means teachers get job satisfaction unmatched by
most professions. There are a few who can use their passion in their job. Teachers get to
do this every day, with the opportunity to instil l this enthusiasm in their pupils.
3. What motivated me to select a career path that includes teaching?
Life is a learning experience. I needed to change careers and education was my first
choice. I never wanted to stop learning to create life‐long learners who care; to help
children learn and be more confident ,to inspire the next generation of social scientists;
show low income students that anyone can succeed when they lift themselves and move
beyond the negativity
4. What is my personal definition of a great teacher and what experience formed that
definition?
A great teacher respects students. Each person’s ideas and opinions are valuable.
Students feel safe to express their feelings and learn to respect and listen to others . A great
teacher creates a sense of community and belonging in the classroom. A great teacher is
1
warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring. A great teacher sets high expectations for all
students.
A great teacher has his/her own love of learning. A great teacher is a skilled leader. A great
teacher can “shift-gears” and is flexible when a lesson i s not working. A great teacher
collaborates with colleagues on an continuous basis. Rather than thinking of herself as
weak because she asks for suggestions or help, this teacher views collaboration as a way
to learn from a fellow professional. A great teacher uses constructive criticism and advice
as an opportunity to grow as an educator.
5. What do I believe about teaching and learning?
I believe learning should be joyful. I believe project-based learning and inquiry leads to
deeper and longer-lasting learning, and higher interest from kids. I think humans are
inherently curious. Project-based learning starts from curiosity, and leads to discovery.
I believe that kids should be empowered with as much choice and voice in their classroom
experience as possible. I believe that power leads to abuse, and that empowering kids in
our classroom is the only way to curb this abuse. I believe in culturally relevant, culturally
responsive teaching, because culture shapes our understanding of the world. In order for us
to reach new understandings, we have to start with what we already know and understand.
6. What do I want my students to gain from my classroom?
Students can gain the skills they will need to be successful in the future .Students gain an
understanding of themselves. Students also gain an understanding of others.
7. Why do I choose the teaching strategies/methods that I use?
I chose these teaching strategies that I use now because I believe that these will definitely
help in enhancing students' learning. My strategies will help them engage and be
motivated. Choosing teaching strategies according to students' capabilities and needs are
the most important pillars of successful learning
8. Why do I select particular assignments/experiences for my students?
The students have an opportunity to reflect on and demonstrate their thinking. By trying to
identify their sources of evidence, the teacher better understands where their difficulties
arise and can alter their teaching accordingly and lead the students toward better
understanding of the concept.
REFLECTION
2
1. What is your personal definition of teaching?
Teaching for me means making a difference for kids. It means helping all students succeed.
It means allowing them to pursue their passions, and supporting them along the way. It
means giving students ownership over their learning. It means helping students wants to
learn. It means giving students a reason to want to come to school each day, and having
them leave just excited as when they arrived.
2. What key phrases or words in your definition are absolutely critical for someone else to
understand your approach to teaching?
“Making a difference”, students from different walks of life converge in a classroom for
learning. They have different capabilities and personalities, adding to the diversity that
comes with learning institutions. As such, if you want to be an effective teacher, you need to
formulate and implement creative and innovative strategies that are practical and meet the
needs of students. This applies to all teachers despite the duration they have been
teaching. However, it can be difficult to know what works best with your students and what
won’t work.
3. What do each key words or phrase mean to you?
“ Making a difference”- As the saying goes, it takes two to tango. To make a difference,
teachers must be willing and able to create a conducive, social environment for learning
and students have to be open to the experience of learning in this environment. The
question is, of course, how to get this dance started in the first place and then how to keep
it going.
4. In reviewing your expanded definition, what would you drop, modify, or add? Give a reason
for your response.
Let me just add, I continually think about this. Teaching means careful, effective word
choice when instructing, communicating, conferencing, assessing and encouraging.
Teaching is a gift, a privilege and it should always be ‘about the students and for the
student’.

A- For me, my personal best achievement as a teacher is the remarkable student progress.
Q- Who is the best teacher you have ever known? What personal qualities made this
person a great teacher?
A- They were all actually best for me, but I will never forget Mrs Quimat in SAIT as she has a
commitment to student’s success. She’s always willing to help and give [Link] is dedicated
to her work as a teacher.
Q- How do the qualities of the best teacher you knew appear in your instruction?
A- Being dedicated to my work as well, the love of teaching, my passion for work. Being
committed to my student’s success.
Q- If you could give others a gift-wrapped box that contained the best qualities of your

A- Personality characteristics related to being a compassionate person and having a
sensitivity to student differences.
Q- If you could put the worst qualities you have as a teacher in the trash, what would
you throw away?
A- I don’t actually have…. I’m perfect in many ways (charrot) ….hahahhahahaha ! But let me
just share this experienced from one of the instructor I had during college, I don’t know why
she’s very mean to us, she’s heartless, she probably love seeing her student/s struggling.
She’s a liar too, she promised us to reenroll her subject “research” because I think in her
entire life she’d never meet the word “CONSIDERATION” kay bugo siya,di siya kasabot sa
sitwasyon sa tibook kalibutan. She’d let us choose whether she’ll give us a failed mark or we
will reenroll. Stupid she is, call me rude. But that is how I perceived her. So, she told us to re-
enroll the subject, and it would be fine cause we don’t need to worry about it as we will just
need to finish our book and nothing else. We are actually expecting a word of honor from her.
But desperately, she forgot all the promises she had back then. We struggled a lot because of
her. How I wish I had a power to spell, I would love turning her into an ugly frog.
Q- What is one action you need to take to give up one or more of the latter qualities?
A- Maybe I’ll be giving up being a perfectionist.
Q- If you wrote a book about teaching, what would the title be? What are three points
about instruction you would make?
A- Teach like your hair’s on fire (my own version). I would be willing to go the extra mile, be
8
more passionate about education and the importance of meeting the needs of students, and
spends more time with students than the average teacher could manage.
COLLEGE INSTRUCTOR/FACILITATOR
(Wishes to Conceal Identity)
Q- What is a “personal best” achievement for you as a teacher during the past year?
A- Being able to see my past students graduate and achieve their goals in life because I know
somehow I was one of the many factor which, or who contributed to their success.
Q- Who is the best teacher you have ever known? What personal qualities made this
person a great teacher?
A- Sir Jas, an “all around teacher”, very entertaining and he can play almost every musical
instrument I could ever think of. He can draw and paint and can sing well.
Q- How do the qualities of the best teacher you knew appear in your instruction?
A- I quite know how to play musical instruments so I used this skill to entertain my pupils when I
was a grade school teacher but now that I am already a college instructor I teach my students
as enthusiastically as I could because I am aware of how hard and boring the subjects that I am
handling. Same as how my best teacher taught us back then.
If you could give others a gift-wrapped box that contained the best qualities of your
teaching style, what items would that box contain?
A- a guitar, a smiling emoji and a copy of the codes of ethics.
Q-If you could put the worst qualities you have as a teacher in the trash, what would you
throw away?
A- my temper, I get easily irritated too often. Though it vanishes as quickly as how it came, still I
don’t like this attitude of mine.
Q-What is one action you need to take to give up one or more of the latter qualities?
A- Maybe I need to meditate more so that I will be able to train my mind to stay calm despite of
having hard-headed, loud, and sometimes annoying students.
Q- If you wrote a book about teaching, what would the title be? What are three points
about instruction you would make?
A- “ Spider’s Web” I will emphasize the following points.
1. The minds of the students are fragile like a spider’s web. Therefor instruction should be
given gently but without losing the authority as a teacher.
2. To gradually create a beautiful web of thoughts on the mind of the students, a teacher
must know how to deliver instruction with patience.
3. A teacher should be very careful in weaving instructions and delivering I to the students
because once it is wrongly implemented, it can never be undone.
9
5 MINUTE NONSTOP WRITING
From the module, I learned that the dimensions of education are imparted in the society. The
whole environment of the individual becomes the source of the setting. The teacher consciously
designs and plans the experiences of the child in the light of the social environment. Education
has to cater to the needs of the individual as well as society. The child has to participate in the
social activities and direct his/her instinct urges and tendencies to the society. Thus, education
includes the new dimension that is the social environment. The process of education includes
three things – the teacher, the taught, and the social environment. All education proceeds by the
participation of the individual in the social consciousness of the race. A society provides direction
and goals to the educational activities. In return it expects us to contribute to its progressive
development. Education is a process as it revolves around the students, the teachers and the
environment in which the education is being imparted. These three are the main constituents of
education. All the three play a major role in the process of learning and imparting education.
Education is that part of life which helps in the better development of the personality of an
individual.
