Towards Building Science Culture

Introduction:The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL)
in cooperation with Outstanding Young Scientist, Inc. (OYSI) DOST Region II will be
conducting the “Training Workshop on Writing and Presenting Proposals towards
Building Science Culture ” on August 29-30 2019 at Cagayan State University Andrews
Campus, Tuguegarao City.
The two-day training workshop is the first of the three modules under the Regional
Seminar Workshops on Research Upgrading and Performance Evaluation of NAST PHL.
The said activity aims to build the capacity of scientists and researchers in preparing
good quality and highly competitive research proposals, and to promote awareness and
appreciation of science towards developing a science culture.
Narration: Day 1 of the seminar includes the following topic: DOST and it’s Projects
presented by Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang the Regional Director, DOST Region II. Building
a Culture of Research in the region and Priority R&D Agenda of Funding Agencies,
discussed by Dr. Cecilia P. Reyes. The research proposal preparation includes steps in
the preparation of research, proposal elements/parts of research and developing the
title and the introduction were discussed by Dr. Maribel l. Dionisio. The afternoon
session includes developing the methodology, Gantt chart and budget shared by Dr.
Claro N. Mingala. Presenting the research proposal presented by Dr. Windell L. Rivera
shared the guidelines in presenting and showed some illustrative examples. We are
being grouped according to our proposals and we have a number of 15 groups to
present in the day 2 of the seminar. The mentoring workshop included in the day 2
includes presenting and critiquing of proposals by the participants and technical panel of
experts. The Quirino State University garnered best presentation and CSU won best
paper. The seminar ended in an impression by the participants and awarding of
certificates.
Insights: This training have imparted such important assemblage that I can utilize in my
profession as an instructor and a researcher. The 2 day workshop shared some tips on
how to write research proposal scientifically and how to present it using applied science
in order to gain the commendation of the panels or the department who will be funding
the proposed project. The foundation of such knowledge
