ANNUAL EXAMINATION MARCH-2021

MATHEMATICS

DATE : 22.3.2021 TIME : 3 ¼ HOURS

CLASS : XI CBSE TOTAL : 80 MARKS

General Instructions:

1. This question paper contains two parts A and B.Each part is compulsory. Part A
carries 24 marks and Part B has carries 56 marks.
2. Part A has Objective type questions and Part B has Descriptive type questions.
3. Both Part A and Part B have choices.

Part -A

1. It consists of two sections I and II


2. Section I comprises of 16 very short answer type questions.
3. Section II contains 2 case studies. Each case study comprises of 5 case-based
MCQs.An examinee is to attempt any 4 out of 5 MCQs.

Part – B

1. It consists of three sections – III, IV and V.


2. Section III comprises of 10 questions of 2 marks each.
3. Section IV comprises of 7 questions of 3 marks each.
4. Section V comprises of 3 questions of 5 marks each.
5. Internal choice is provided in 3 questions of Section III, 2 questions of Section IV
and 3 questions of Section V.You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all
such questions.

PART –A

Section – I

All questions are compulsory. In case of internal choice attempt any one.

1.Write the solution set of the equation x2-5x+6=0 in roster form.

2.Find the union of the following pairs of sets. A ={ x : x is a natural number and 1<x  6}

B= {x: x is a natural number and 6<x<10}.


3.Let A ={1,2,3} , B = {3,4}and C ={4,5,6}.Find (i) A x (B  C) (ii) A x (B  C).

(Or)

Let A={1,2,3,……,14}.Define a relation R from A to A by R={(x,y) / 3x-y =0 where x,y  A}.

Write down its domain ,codomain and range.

4.Find the value of Sin 765o.

5.Find the multiplicative inverse of 2-3i.

6.Solve 4x+3 < 6x+7.

10.Reduce the equation y – 2 = 0 into normal form.

12. Name the octants in which the points (7,-2,6) (-2,-3,4) lie.

Find the square of distance between the pairs of points (2,-1,3) and (-2,1,3).

14. If x1, x2,……,xn be n observations and x be their arithmetic mean ,then write the formula for

the S.D.

15.Describe the sample space for the indicated experiment: A coin is tossed and then a die is

rolled only in case a head is shown in the coin.

16.If the parabola y 2 = 4ax passes through the point (3,2) then find the length of its latusrectum.

SECTION –II

Both the case study based questions are compulsory.Attempt any 4 sub parts from each

question 17 and 18.Each question carries 4 marks.

17.A farmer wishes to install 2 hand pumps in his field of watering.The farmer moves in the field
while watering in such a way that sum of distances between the farmer and each hand pump is
always 26m.Also distance between two hand pumps is 10m.

18. In a game,entry fee is Rs.5.Game is all about tossing a coin three times.If one or two heads

show then Arun gets entry fee back.If he throws three heads he receives double entry fee,
otherwise he loses.

19.Let A={1,2}, B={x : x is a solution of x2-3x+2=0}.State whether A= B or not and give

28.Find the equation for the ellipse that satisfies the conditions:

Length of major axis is 26 and foci are (5,0) and (-5,0).

Find the Mean deviation about the mean for the following data: 6,7,10,12,13,4,8,12.

PART-B

SECTION –IV

All questions are compulsory.In case of internal choice attempt any one.

29.Find the number of ways of selecting 9 balls from 6 red balls , 5 white balls and 5 blue balls if

each selection consists of 3 balls of same colour.

30.If the 4th , 10th and 16th terms of a G.P are x,y,z respectively. Prove that x,y,z are in G.P.

(Or)

If A and G are A.M and G.M respectively between two positive numbers. Prove that the

numbers are A  ( A  G)( A  G .

31.Find the equation of hyperbola where foci are (0,  12) and the length of the latusrectum is 36.

32.Three coins are tossed once. Let A denote the event “three heads show” , B denote the event

“two heads and one tail show”,C denote the event “three tails show” and D denote the event “ a

33.Find the equation of the set of points which is equidistant from the points (1,2,3) and (3,2,-1).

34.Find the Mean deviation about the median for the following data : 3,9,5,3,12,10,18,4,7,19,21.

35.Find all pairs of consecutive even positive integers both which are larger than 5 such that their

sum is less than 23.

SECTION -V

All questions are compulsory.

36.If p and q are the length of the perpendiculars from the origin to the lines

x cos  - y sin  = k cos 2  and x sec  + y cosec  = k respectively.Prove that p2+4q2=k2

The sums of n terms of two arithmetic progressions in the ratio5n+4 :9n+6.Find the ratio of

their 18th terms.

38.What is the number of ways of choosing 4 cards from a pack of 52 playing cards? In how

many of these (i) four cards are of same suit? (ii) are face cards?(iii) cards are of the same

colour? (Or)

A line perpendicular to the line segment joining the points (1,0) and (2,3) divides it in the

ratio 1: n.Find the equation of the line.
