Design Elements
1. Find photos that clearly illustrate these elements of design: line, shape, and texture.
2. Insert the photos in the table below.
3. Write a short description of the photo and discuss how the design element is
implemented.
4. Include a description of at least two of the garment's design details (what type of
sleeves, collar, skirt, etc.).
Line
Insert picture illustrating the
element of line in a garment.
Write a short description of the
photo.
Halter dress with horizontal stripes,
accenting where the curves on body are most prominent.
Inward diagonal stripes pointing in around waist, giving the
illusion on a tiny waistline.
Dress has a jewel neckline and a tight fit mini skirt.
Shape / Silhouette
Insert picture illustrating the
element of line in a garment.
Write a short description of the
photo.
Skirt of dress extremely full and
rounded and starts very high up. Because of this, it makes the
silhouette of the body hard to determine. Makes body look
wider from the ballgown shape.
Dress has a straight across neckline with no sleeves.

Texture
Insert picture illustrating the
element of line in a garment.
Write a short description of the
photo.
Thick fur coat has intensely plush
texture given to it. The fur has a shorter length to its texture, as
to give it more of a fuzzy, short-haired cat feel rather than the
long fur texture of a lion’s mane.
The coat has long sleeves, and an enormous hood. There are
also vertical sections down the torso of the coat, and horizontal
section lines across the sleeves.
