MODULE 4
THE UNITED NATIONS AND CONTEMPORARY GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

This module will examine how global governance is articulated by intergovernmental organizations. It will focus
primarily on the United Nations (UN) as the most prominent intergovernmental organization today. In this lesson, the
learners will look into the meaning of global governance through the discussion of of the United Nations’ (UN) organs,
roles and functions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this module, the students are expected to:

1. Define global governance


2. Identify the role and functions of the United Nations
3. Determine the challenges of global governance in the twenty-first century
4. Explain the relevance of the nation-state in the midst of globalization

TOPIC: The United Nations and Contemporary Global Governance

what ways can the state maintain its sovereignty amid globalization?
