I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the symbolisms used in the poem.
2. Appreciate the work of the writer.
3. Show empathy to the persona in the poem.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: Padre Faura Witnesses the Execution of Rizal by Danton Remoto

III. Procedure:

A. Daily Routine

B. Review
Ask the following questions to the lerners.
1. What is an excerpt?
2. What is the excerpt all about?
3. What are the realizations of Raymundo Mata while reading the novel?
C. Motivation
Ask the following questions to the learners.
1. What do you know about Jise Rizal?
2. Why do people often compare and contrast Rizal and Bonifacio?
3. Do you consider Rizal as a revolutionary? Why or why not?
D. The teacher will group the learners into 5 and let them read the poem by group.
Padre Faura Witnesses the Execution of Rizal by Danton Remoto
E. By group, the teachers will post the questions on the board and ask each group
to answer them.
Group 1- Who is Pepe? Explain.
Why does Pepe ask the persona about Purgatory?
Group 2- The poem talks about the nature of stars. Can you explain
what he means.
This discussion of star is also a metaphor. What is it a
metaphor for?
Group 3- Why was Rizal executed? How is this similar to the idea of a
star? Relate this to Philippine history.
What do you think the persona felt for Rizal? Give textual
evidence.
Group 4- Do you feel the same way as the persona fely for Rizal?
Why or why not?
What do you think is the greatest contribution of Rizal to
Philippine society?
Group 5- If you were in Rizal’s place, would you have supported the
Katipunan? Why or why not?
Who do you consider as our national hero? Jose Rizal or
Andres Bonifacio?
IV. Evaluation
In a small group, write and perform a song about Jose Rizal . You may use
lines from either Rizal or Remoto’s poem.
