ABSTRACT
The researcher aimed to ascertain the manifested impact of family structure on the behavior
of students of Batangas State University Lemery. It also sought to ascertain the profile of the
respondents in terms of age, sex and course.
This study used descriptive method that helped the researcher to further analyze the research
problem. Correspondingly, it only focused on 50 students of BatStateU Lemery at Rajah Matanda
Street, Bagong Sikat, Lemery Batangas.
In conclusion, most of the respondents belonged to the age bracket 17-19 Most of the
respondents are female and from nuclear.
INTRODUCTION
Traditional family was once the core foundation and stabilizing force of our society. It is the
principal institutions for the socialization of children socially and plays a major role in their
socialization. Family is the most important social group to which a person could belong to. The family
teaches about the importance of knowledge, education, hard work and effort. It teaches us about
enjoying ourselves, having fun, keeping fit and healthy. They’re the one who teaches all social and
moral etiquettes which a person learns and they learn them because of their family environment. The
conditions in a family very much affect the livelihood and working of an individual.
The family structure is the composition and membership of the family and the organization
and patterning of relationship among the individual family members. It is the way in which the family
is organized according to roles, rules and hierarchies. The diversity of families is evident in the
growth of non-traditional family structures. The family structures can be defined in terms of parents’
relationships to children in the household and parents’ marital status and relationship history like
divorced, separated and remarried.

Over the past two decades or so, a significant literature has developed on the
impact of the family structure on the attitude of children. Changes in the family structure such as
divorce and remarriage are associated with the academic difficulties, psychological, emotional and
behavioral problems for children. Family structures of some kind are found in every society. Changes
in family structures and responsibilities comes a new realm of issues that can arise. It is possible that
the relationship between family change and children’s behavior and thus, the effect of relationship,
will vary by what type of change the family experiences.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The study aimed to determine the impact of the family structure on the behavior of
students of Batangas State University Lemery. Specifically, it sought to answer the following
questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents?

1.2 Sex
1.3 Course
2. What are the different types of Family Structure?
3. What are the impacts of family structure on students’ behavior in terms of:
3.1 Emotional Behavior
3.2 Social Bhavior

METHODOLOGY
Research Method Used
The descriptive type of research was used by the researcher in order to analyze and
summarize the information being gathered from first-hand data which is the survey and the
second-hand data which came from books, newspapers, magazines, and online websites. It is
believed that this kind of method is effective in order to answer the statement of the problem.
The said method had been a crucial part to be research study since it greatly help in the easy
and convenient way
Respondents of the Study
This study focused on 50 students of BatStateU Lemery Campus.
Research Instrument
The main instrument used in this study was validated questionnaire to ensure the
credibility of the information.
Data Gathering Procedure
Upon the approval of the topic, the researcher did all the possible ways to gather
information that will support the study. Then the researcher made the essential parts of the
study particularly the questionnaire. After the questionnaire validated, the researcher
distributed the questionnaire to the respondents of the study. The results of the study were
interpreted by the researcher.
Statistical Treatment of Data
Tabulated responses were analyzed using the following statistical tools, percentage,
ranking and weighted mean. The likert scale below was used to interpret the responses.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
Part I. Profile of the Respondents
1.1 Age
Thirty-two (32) or 64 percent of the respondents belonged to the age 17-19 and
eighteen (18) or 36 percent of the respondents belonged to the age 20 and above.
1.2 Gender
Twenty-seven (27) or 54 percent of the respondents are female and twenty-three (23)
or 46 percent of the respondents are male.
1.3 Course
Seventeen (17) or 34 percent of the respondents are from Bachelor of Business
Administration, Ten (10) or 20 percent of the respondents are from Bachelor of Technical
Vocational Education and the remaining thirteen (13) or 26 percent of the respondents are
from Bachelor of Industrial Technology.

Twenty-four (24) or 48 percent of the respondents
belongs to nuclear family; eleven (11) or 22 percent of the respondents belongs to broken
family, nine (9) or 18 percent belongs to step or blended family and six (6) or 12 percent
belongs to single-parent family.

Emotional Behavior
Table 1 presents the emotional behavior of students from different types of family
structure. Build self-confidence got the highest weighted mean of 3.7. Students making his or
her family as inspiration scored a weighted mean of 3.5. Experience anxiety got the least
weighted mean of 2.33.

An overall result implies that BatState U Lemery
students in terms of emotional behavior with the composite mean of 2.88. It indicates that the
family structure has impact on the emotional behavior of students.

Table 2 exhibits the social behavior of BatState U Lemery students and gain a composite
mean of 3.1 with verbal interpretation of Agree. As shown in the table, highest in rank is students
maintain a good relationship with others with weighted mean of 3.9 and verbal interpretation of
strongly agree.
