Types of General and Particular Solutions

This document discusses two types of solutions to equations: general solutions and particular solutions. A general solution contains arbitrary constants and is the full solution set, while a particular solution assigns specific values to the constants to give a single solution obtained from the general solution. Examples are provided of equations and their general and particular solutions.

Types of Solution

1. General Solution

The general solution is a solution that contains a number of arbitrary

constants equation to the order of the equation.

Example:
1. 6 x 2+ 2 xy =C
2. y=C 1 e2 x +C 2 x

2. Particular Solution

The particular solution is the solution obtained from the general solution
by assigning particular values to the arbitrary constants.

Example:
1. 2 xy+ y 2−10=0
2. y=2 x 2−2 x−7
