Rhiannon Shane Roster #21
I have viewed and learned the different perspectives of teaching while in my EDU 202
class. I have learned that everyone is so different in their ideas of what kind of teacher they
want to be, and I think that kind of diversity is great. I believe that students need different
types of teachers so they don’t get used to only one type of teaching and so they know how to
learn with each type of teacher. If my friends or family were to describe me, they would say
that I am nice and caring and that I always see the good in people. I am always trying to help
people and never give up on them. I try to see both sides of everything so that I can be
objective and even critique myself so I can know when I am wrong. I think it is important to
admit when you’re wrong because that shows that you can learn from your mistakes instead of
hiding them. Also, I think the students will learn from the behavior that you show and if you
admit when you’re wrong then you are influencing them to do the same. The main thing my
friends and family tell me is that I am a leader. Either on trips, during events, at work, or even in
games… I am the one who makes the decisions and tells everyone the plan. I love planning so
much that I never stop wanting to plan something. I always must be planning something, so I go
on my phone or laptop and either plan classes for the next semester, trips with friends, and
even my future. I will plan things that are so far away just because I want to know what’s
coming. I believe this could be useful as a teacher because I will be excited to plan my next
lesson plan or project for the students. Although I do have a soft spot and care a lot about
people, I am still able to remain strict when needed so students don’t get out of line.
In five years, I see myself graduated from college with my teaching degree and teaching at a
high school. I will be twenty-five in five years so I think I will be married with one kid that is a
year old and I will be living in my own house. I hope to have a classroom filled with great
students that respect me and enjoy learning. As a future teacher, I will strive to reach every
student so that every student learns and doesn’t feel lost. I want my students to feel welcome
to talk to me if they have any problems and that they can always work with me either during
prep periods or after school. I would like to have a clear lesson plan and it be written on the
board so that the students know what the day holds. I would like to incorporate active learning
in a lot of my lessons to keep student interest and motivate them to learn more. I believe if a
teacher can put in the work to create projects, then the students can really benefit. I also think
group projects, if managed properly, can be of great impact. Group projects let students talk
about the work and figure it out together so they can all understand it. I prefer to allow groups
to ask me for help if they all need help so I can work with their group. After the groups have
completed their task, I would like to go over the paper and have each group show me one part
of the assignment that they have completed so I know each group is not confused.
I believe it is important for a teacher to be strict but not so strict that the students are too
afraid to ask for help. I think if students enjoy your class but also respect your class then that is
a great accomplishment. I would like my students to have discussions in class if possible or
needed. I think it is important to make the classroom feel like a safe space to discuss without
judgment or ridicule and for all students to support each other. I think teachers can focus on
helping kids to learn life skills but that is not the main priority. Although, I do believe that all
high schools should have a class teaching students about life as an adult so they can be
prepared. I will try to help slackers want to do better and put in effort. I want to reach every
student as a teacher. Students hate tests and there are arguments that tests are pointless and
don’t show progress, but I think they do show progress in what students have learned if your
test is relevant to what was taught. I do not think it should be the main grade, but it can be
used to show progress. I do not agree with text books, as I think the teacher should teach from
the text book and make a lesson, not just have the students read from it and then take a test.
Students will learn a lot more from the teacher talking to the class about the text book and
making fun assignments or lessons out of it. Teachers should have a good balance between
being strict and making it fun. It makes a huge difference in how students learn, and I think you
could possibly even create a passion for learning in a student.
