BUILDINGS
Effect of intelligence on
architecture
WHAT IS AN INTELLIGENT BUILDING ?

A building that is -
• Sustainable ,
• Healthy ,
• Technologically aware
• Meets the needs of occupants and business
• Flexible
• Adaptable to deal with change
SMART BUILDING INTELLIGENT BUILDING

• System on separate networks • Systems on one ip network

• Managed by multiple workstations • Managed by one workstation-reduces end-user training

time
• Multiple vendors maintaining systems
• Fewer vendors required to maintain system
• No data sharing across systems.
• Data sharing maximized for improved control
• Performing action based on direct input of information
• Lifecycle costs of building operation reduced.
or data.
• Performing actions based on common sense, experience,
and the ability to adapt, taking context into account.
REALIZATION OF INTELLIGENT BUILDINGS
BENEFITS-
Lower operating costs.
Energy metering.
Fast and effective service
Simplified property management
Enhanced life safety and security.
Anticipation of future technology
Environmentally friendly.

DEMAND-
The demand for intelligent buildings and related intelligent building
solutions is on the rise as technological and business-related
transformations shape the evolutions in the market with shifts for
all stakeholders, including owners, facility managers, real estate
developers, vendors, integrators and partner ecosystems.
INTELLIGENT ARCHITECTURE AND STRUCTURE
Intelligent architecture refers to built forms whose integrated systems are capable of anticipating and responding to
phenomena, whether internal or external, that affect the performance of the building and its occupants.
Intelligent architecture relates to three distinct areas of concern:
1 intelligent design;
2 appropriate use of intelligent technology;
3 intelligent use and maintenance of buildings. INTELLIGENT
ELEMENTS
Artificial intelligence in Architecture
A.I. is already quite present and is used very often by architects for
their projects, be that using something as boring as a calculator or as
fun as BIM software. A perfect example of using A.I. to solve problems
that would take days for an architect, is the space syntax software
‘depthmapX’ by The Bartlett at UCI. It uses A.I. to analyze the spatial
network on many levels without the need of going on site.

Capital Tower is a 52-storey Grade A office building set
in a landscaped plaza, integrated with meeting and
conference facilities, flexible workspaces, fitness centre,
retail and F&B outlets. It is seamlessly linked to the
Tanjong Pagar MRT station and surrounding buildings via
an underground pedestrian network. Built in 2000, this is
perhaps the oldest smart building in the world with
latest technology like- IBMS, intelligent car park
management system, dual LCE panels, Eco-friendly
sustainable systems.

incorporates an energy recovery wheel system in its air-
conditioning system which allows for the recovery of cool
air, to maintain the chillers’ efficiency. Motion detectors,
double-glazed glass windows. water condensation from the
air handling unit for use as top-up water for the cooling
towers. At the same time, the office and car park areas
are fitted with carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide
monitoring devices, thus ensuring optimal air quality levels
across the building.
CASE STUDY

THE EDGE
The Edge is an office building
which opens itself up to the city
with its 15-storey atrium. The
atrium acts as a window between
the world of work and the outside,
as well as providing a social
heart for the building, and
serving as an environmental buffer
to reduce energy use.

That atrium is also the place

where new working patterns meet
digital systems.
About 2,500 workers share 1,000 desks. The concept
is called hot desking, and its supposed to
encourage new relationship chance interactions,
and, just as important, efficient use of space.
Desks are only used when they're needed. Some tiny
rooms at the Edge contain just a lounge chair and
a lamp (no desk)—perfect for a phone call.
Fine tuning the shape and orientation of the Edge was the initial step in achieving the exceptional climatic and
energy performance of the headquarters. -allows natural daylight to reach the vast majority of the office
spaces,
-provide thermal mass and shade.
-reduces energy use in both summer and winter.
-its energy-neutral temperature control,
-energy efficient design and green
-energy-generating technology,
-the Edge Captures rainwater and stores
it underground

The smartphone is your passport to the Edge.
Use it to find your colleagues, adjust the heating,
or manage your gym routine.

Deloitte is collecting gigabytes

of data on how the Edge and its
employees interact. Central
dashboards track everything from
energy use to when the coffee
machines need to be refilled. On
days when fewer employees are
expected, an entire section
might even be shut down, cutting
the costs of heating, cooling,
lighting, and cleaning.

INFERENCE-
• The new innovations are certainly changing how humans live.
• But the iot can make the living economical, comfortable, enhance the
architecture of buildings.
• The AI as well maximise efficiency, performance and occupant wellbeing.
• These new intelligent features are catalyst for transformation of building
design and concept evolving.
• Architecture and iot when go hand in hand they give new building typologies.
• “You can't manage what you can't measure.” the ai helps to manage
everything by calculation ,permutation and combination.
