Activity 4.2

1. ) Does McDonadl’s success outside the united states provide support for Levitt's view about the
global market place?

It doesn't really supports his views because Levitt forecasted that global companies would be
selling products and services in the same way everywhere on earth.
However when we look at McDonald's success we can see that the firm adapted its products to
the local conditions and culture. For example in Japan they serve some menus with rice instead of
potato chips. In India the company eliminated beef burgers from the menu and replaced them
with lamb and veggie patties due to the local beliefs.
2. ) Do you think accompany like McDonald’s is welcome in countries like Syria, Yemen, Somalia,
and Libya as well as Iraq? What about North Korea and Afghanistan? Why or why not?

Generally speaking, it’s more about what McDonald’s can offer and where they choose to create
a store location. There is nothing “hostile” to McDonald’s specifically in Syria, Yemen, Somalia,
Libya, or Iraq. (As far as I am aware, there is even a McDonald’s currently operating in Baghdad,
Iraq.)Most Middle Easterners do not make a leap between patronizing an American-owned
company and supporting US foreign policy, which is why this does not present as an issue. The
only country where McDonald’s became political in the Middle East was in Iran, which has
banned the brand and forcibly shut down McDonald’s in the early days of the Islamic Revolution.

3. ) Describe your personal experience with McDonald’s and Jollibee as a customer.

McDonald’s never fall short of my expectations, they serve simple food with a great passion on
their customer service while Jollibee have the Filipino Culture back to their food which gives you
a sappy feeling by just being on their store.

4. ) As to cost benefit analysis, which would you prefer as your gadget: Samsung, Vivo, Lenovo or
local manufactured phones such as Cherry Mobile, Star Mobile , or My Phone?

I would always go with Samsung, Vivo, or Lenovo since they have a good reputation not just
locally but worldwide.
