Job Summary

The assistant psychometrician works in collaboration with Paragons Test


Research and Development Unit to administer weekly testing operations such as equating
and item analyses. The assistant psychometrician also collaborates on research projects
related to the development and improvement of Paragons tests. This position may also
involve developing technical documentation and reports for stakeholders.

Work Activities

In consultation with the Professional Regulation Commission and the Director of


Written Examinations and the Director of Practical Examinations, the duties and
responsibilities of the assistant psychometrician includes, but are not limited to:

Test Development Activities


Equating forms and calculating test scores utilizing Paragons scoring systems
Understanding Item Response Theory (IRT) and the technical skills required to
work on large scale computer-based scoring systems
Generating the rater performance analysis
General Company Involvement Activities
Participating in the design, implementation, and analysis of research studies that
will contribute to the further development of Paragons assessments and tests
Demonstrating finesse in working in team-based research settings
Identifying and communicating individual, group, and company-based
opportunities for growth
Following all Paragon policies pertaining to ethics and security
Research and Analysis Activities
Analyzing of rater agreement, timing and calibration data (weekly)
Developing new performance monitoring procedures
Improving extant procedures
Taking a lead role in the gathering, analysis, and dissemination of key
performance indicators for the Research and Development Unit
Developing methods for analysis, and also managing, systematizing, and
integrating data from a broad range of sources into a single report

Compensation Information

The assistant psychometricians entry salary may range from P9,600 - P12,000
per month and may even go up to P15,000 per month for those highly-trained and
experienced.

Job Competencies

Upon hiring, the assistant psychometrician must be:


A graduate of 4-year degree of Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science major in
Psychology
A licensed psychometrician (RPm) under the Professional Regulation
Commission of the Philippines
Specialized knowledge in psychological testing and research
Able to maintain confidentiality of test information and results
Highly proficient at programming and data analysis using Microsoft Office
applications, especially MS Excel
Knowledgeable in using SPSS and/or SAS
Knowledgeable on the other functions and procedures of other national and
international testing organizations

After hiring, the assistant psychometrician must be:
Effective in communicating, orally and in writing, testing principles in lay
language to NBCE Board of Directors, NBCE staff, college administrators,
faculty, and staff, state licensing board officers and staff, and the public at large
Effective in communicating, orally and in writing, with other professionals such
as statisticians, attorneys and programmers.
Well-organized and detail-oriented
Able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines

Able to be comfortable working with a wide variety of test subjects
Proficient in determining the abilities, skills and knowledge needed to do the job
and create the specifications of the test
