Ctobserv 1130 Lesson

This lesson plan template outlines a 4th grade science lesson on weathering and erosion. The lesson objectives are for students to describe weathering, erosion, and the difference between the two. A variety of teaching methods are used, including direct instruction, collaborative work, and a slideshow presentation. To check for understanding, students will complete a "ticket out the door" drawing a picture of how a rock weathers.

What will you do if a student masters the content quickly?

Meeting your students needs If applicable, how does this lesson connect to the interests and cultural backgrounds of your
as people and as learners students?Students environment is constantly changing through building and growth in their
communities. This is another change thats around them, but they may not notice because natural
changes take place over a long period of time and happen slowly.

If applicable, how does this lesson connect to/reflect the local community?
These students see changes in their environment all the time as this community is growing
(destructive-cutting down trees for neighborhoods and other plazas;constructive- buildings & homes
and roads being built).
In this lesson they will learn about changes that are caused by nature (weathering) rather than by
humans.
How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional challenge during this
lesson (enrichment)?
For students who need enrichment: Explain how a landform such as the Grand Canyon might have
been formed? How does weathering and erosion relate to its formation?
How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional language support?
If I had students who need additional language support, I would provide printouts with pictures of the
weathering process and erosion process- all clearly labeled. If possible, I would do a short preview of
the vocabulary words and lesson in a small group for ELLs and other struggling learners.
Accommodations (If needed) n/a for this lesson
(What students need specific
accommodation? List individual
students (initials), and then
explain the accommodation(s) you
will implement for these unique
learners.)
