KAYLA MASSIE
To Whom This May Concern,

I am writing in regards to the music teaching positions available through Duval County Schools. I
have always said that I wanted to move away from West Virginia to a bigger city where I could really
embrace who I truly am. Born originally in South Carolina, I have always wanted to make my way back
down south. Several changes in my life have allowed to be able to make the decision to move.
Teaching is the main passion in my life. To be able to spark the love of music in a students life is
an indescribable feeling. I strive to give my students the tools to allow them to explore, enjoy and
appreciate all music every day in my classroom. As an educator, I believe in a learning environment
where each child participates to the highest level possible, has experiences that all children are having,
learns to interact with other children, and receives respect for his or her unique needs. By focusing on
all different learning styles, I am able to increase the success students can achieve.
I believe children need to be given work and have material presented to them in ways that meet
their own needs. Each child has their own culture and background that they bring with them to the
classroom and it is my job to build upon those traits to increase their learning experience. We should
always embrace these unique qualities and our differences while making sure all students have the
utmost respect for one another.
I believe my classroom should be a safe environment in which students feel comfortable making
mistakes while learning from them. Students should feel encouraged and be submerged in a supportive
classroom by not only the teacher but the students as well. When we help students believe in their
selves and what they can achieve, we are creating positive, life-long learners.
Working for the Duval Education System would not only allow me to teach music but embrace
my passion of performing as a musician. As a music teacher, I think it is a great asset to be a working
musician to have a better understanding of music to express to my students.
With this being said, I hope you strongly consider me as a candidate for the music positions in
your county. I want nothing more than to be a part of a community; a family of educators who want to
see the success of their students.

Musically Yours,

Kayla Massie
