    L1 A Blanket Visa Interview At Chennai Consulate

    Hi,
    I have applied for L1 A visa Blanket
    Below are the questions which were asked
    VO - How are you?
    Self -replied
    VO -So you work for XXXXXX organization?
    Self -yes
    VO-Which visa you are applying L1 a or B?
    Self- L1a
    VO-Whcih client you will be working for?
    Self -Mentioned not working for a specific client as i will be in sales role hence there will be multiple clients and this is
    a intra company trasnfer.
    VO - how many direct reportees will you have?
    Self - replied XXXX
    VO - What will you do there?
    Self - replied with roles and responsibilities
    VO- your designation?
    Self - replied
    VO - Basis designation, he asked me what kind of account you will handle there?
    Self - Mentioned the account deatils
    VO - Asked again, who are your clients?
    Self - replied to start with we have 3 clients and their names.
    VO - Asked again total direct reortees and how many of them are American?
    Self - replied, this answer is critical as he mentioned basis the current org structure how many americans are there.
    He kept writing on his PC and then finally the golden words
    You visa is approved SIR, have a nice day.
    Greeted the officer and left.
    This website is really help full, i went throught the expereinces of other people and it help me to prepare for the
    interview.

    L1A Visa Interview Questions :

    How many years of experience you have?

    How long you are with present company?

    How long you have been on Manager Role with present company?

    How many people report to you in US?

    Does anyone report to your sub-ordinates?

    Whom do you report to?

    How many years you were in US?

    Can I see your Pay Stubs?

    He has seen each and every Pay Stub thoroughly and returned them back.

    3. How much people will report to you in US? How much of them would will be leading
    teams on their own?
    4. What is the function you will be managing?
    5. Who will be your customer?
    6. Where will you be working?
    7. What will your salary be in US?
    8. I see that you have traveled to US many times. Why did you travel there? What kind of
    Visa did you use to travel to USA?

    Total time - approx 4 hours (big queue and long waiting )

    1st 4 page of I-129s along with I-797 (3 set) , 500 $ fee and passport . No other document
    they have seen/checked .

    L1A Blanket Denied at Chennai


    This forum was a very helpful in my preparation for the L1A visa interview. Below is my
    experience at Chennai OFC and Consulate.
    OFC - Very simple procedure. It took only 15 mins to complete finger printing.
    Consulate - People were standing in a long queue waiting for their turn. I waited for an hour
    before I was allowed to enter inside consulate. It took more than an hour to get my turn for
    the visa interview. Below are the questions asked during interview

    Well, it is always difficult to ascertain the exact reason, but on the basis of the information
    provided by you, the only reason seems to me is that if we look at your and your
    supervisors designation in combination, it doesn't seem that you are a Manager of
    managers( A manager who manages other managers) which is a basic requirement for L1A.
    Also, the fact that your Supervisor only manages one line of business(to which you would
    also be a part of) gives the impression that a separate manager is not needed in US to do
    more or less the same work as is being done by your Supervisor. If your Supervisor had
    been managing different line of businesses and if his designation was higher than that of a
    Manager like Director or VP, then the CO, would have been convinced that there is a wide
    enough span which needs a new Manager of Managers in US
    Also, if you currently do not have managers reporting to you and if you wont have managers
    reporting to you in US, then it is highly unlikely that your L1A would be granted
    This is just my opinion on the basis of online research and discussions that we have. It is
    certainly not a legal advise

    I explained them what is the functional department in my organization that I will be
    managing and what will be my roles and responsibilities in managing the functional
    department.
