Dosage 200mg/3ml PRN
Mechanism Paracetamol exhibits analgesic action by peripheral blockage of pain impulse generation. It produces antipyresis by inhibiting the hypothalamic heat-regulating centre. Its weak antiinflammatory activity is related to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis in the CNS. Onset: <1 hr. Duration: 4-6 hr. competes with histamine for H 1 -receptor sites on effector cells inthe GIT, blood vessels, and respiratory tract .
Indication Fever
Contraindications Renal or hepatic impairment; alcoholdependent patients; G6PD deficiency
Adverse Reaction Nausea, allergic reactions, skin rashes, acute renal tubular necrosis. Potentially Fatal: Very rare, blood dyscrasias (e.g. thrombocytop enia, leucopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytos is); liver damage.
