Olympic Dreams: A Student's Plea

The student writes a letter to the President of the IOC requesting to attend the next Olympics. In three sentences: The student explains that as an athlete and sports captain, witnessing the Olympics would provide inspiration and learning on how to organize their school's annual Sports Day ceremony, which aims to bring peace, sportsmanship, and unity among students. Attending would allow the student to experience the messages of unity, tolerance, equality, and peace promoted by the Olympics, and to share this experience by carrying these messages back to their school. Letter Writing Model 1 Imagine that you can win a free trip to the next Olympics by writing a letter

to the President of the IOC. You must explain persuasively why you wish to attend. Refer to material in passages A and B, and add ideas of your own. From Arul Gaspar Teacher in English Primus Public School Bangalore Karnataka, India To The President of the IOC The Olympic Truce Centre Athens, Greece 23 November 2009 Sub: The reason to attend the next Olympics Dear President, I am writing this letter to you to let you know, why I wish to attend the next Olympics. I have certain convincing, positive and worthy points to put forth with regards to my strong wish and will to attend the next Olympics. First of all, as an athlete of my school, Primus public School, Bangalore, I would like to witness all the Olympic runners performing their great feat at the stadium. The Olympic games and the flame are of grand views for any spectator present over there. They are the real source of inspiration for me to envision my dream of participating in the Olympic Games in the future. Moreover, we are going to celebrate our first annual Sports Day at our school and fortunately, I am the sports captain to organize the day. When I witness the torch-bearing runners with the Olympic torches, it would be a great learning to follow the same ceremony in our school. We not only bring back the historical moments of the Olympic events, we also bring peace, sportsmanship, and sportive spirit among all the students. What I am going to learn at the stadium is more than witnessing just the games. They are unity in diversity, tolerance, team spirit and whats more, a sense of equality and genuine love for a fellow being.

The Olympic Games carry a great message to all extremists who believe in terrorism to solve their problems. When I get a chance, I have the honor to carry the message of peace to my school. Therefore, I would request you to consider my case a genuine one to attend the trip to uphold the tradition of the Olympic Games and bring back the same glory and honor to my school curriculum in future. Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely ( )
